New Job for MLK's Daughter

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference has announced the election of the Reverend Bernice King, the youngest daughter of the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. The announcement has raised concern among LGBT people and their supporters, reports SheWired.com. Bernice King has been vocal against marriage equality and stoked homophobic fires when she said, “I know in my sanctified soul that [Dr. King] did not take a bullet for same-sex marriage.”

Obviously Mr. King did not spend enough time teaching his children the meaning of love and acceptance. But then, as we have seen in the past, he wasn't really that good at teaching these principles to the rest of the AA's, either.

Dr. King had another, perfectly worthy and noble, goal that he devoted his life to and took that bullet for. His daughter is, regrettably, determined to play Oppression Olympics with a side of logic fail, suggesting that since he did not prioritize advocating for same-sex marriage (decades before it even appeared on OUR radar) equally alongside his crusade for racial equality (which already took up the vast majority of his time, energy, and efforts), he must have been opposed to it.

I call bullsh!t. Not takin time to support something when one's life is consumed with supporting something else does NOT equal even so much as dislike of it, let alone enough hatred and selfishness to go out of one's way to deny people something that significantly matters to them.

Dr. King was a brilliantly compassionate, empathic, unselfish man who gave his life (in both senses of the word) in service of the concept that people deserve security from having their lives defined by other people's prejudices.

That's all *I* need to have faith that he'd be on our side today.

the ONLY Juggernaut I know of coming from the LGBT community is to be treated Equally - Like everyone other Tax paying American citzen....thats it, no more,no less. Gay people aren't asking for anything that no one else already has,and Takes for granted.
