Can we got back to typing about rock-n-roll? The political banter is nothing but na-na-nee-boo-boo and "gotcha." I don't think anyone is changing opinions. So, I'll get the ball rolling.....Who is the greatest ENGLISH rock band of all time?
|
||||
|
Well, there are only a handful of bands that could qualify.
The Beatles The Who Led Zeppelin The Yardbirds It would be really difficult to say that one of these is a bigger winner than the next. The Beatles- no discussion necessary- for obvious reasons they are a clear candidate. The Who - It's hard to find more pure rock-n-roll attitude and pure talent anywhere. Led Zeppelin - Actually lived and created our definition of the word "Rock Stars". The Yardbirds - Jeff Beck? Jimmy Page? Eric Clapton? This group was a literal spawning ground for Rock n Roll legends. But if I had to pick one, I'd say Led Zep. You just can't get any more Rock than they are. |

No question. The Stones. Hands down for rockin roll. The Who...Queen... in the top three. As for the Beatles? They transcend time and space. But afterall, it's just rock'n'roll.

Oh My Gosh!!!!!!!! I forgot Fleetwood Mac.
|
||||
|
Cream?
The Rolling Stones? Blind Faith? Black Sabbath? |
||||
|
Yep, I forgot to add Queen.
The Stones vs the Beatles? Sorry, they have to move to tier 2. Blind Faith? Great stuff, but also tier 2. Black Sabbath? One of my favorite bands EVAH! And arguably more influential to the development of rock than almost anyone else. But to say they were bigger than Zeppelin? I can't quite go that far.. Cream was a big deal. No getting around it. I'd still put them behind the Beatles, Zeppelin, The Who, and the Yardbirds. It could kind of be argued that Hendrix would qualify as an English band. Sure he was an American, but we'd have never heard about him if it wasn't for the London scene moving him to the forefront and exporting him back to the States. At the level we're talking about..all had monumental talent and influence. I'd go as far as to say that it shouldn't be a competition and to be thankful for the fact that there was simply so much talent for us to enjoy. |

Much as I like Hendrix, I don't think he'd qualify as an "English" band. He was American and just got his start in England.
I'd have to say Led Zeppelin if you're talking about "rockin" rock bands again. |

I doubt if the Yardbirds would qualify for a top of list but you would have to put Black Sabbath and Deep Purple on it for their influence and their record sales. |

Yep, but Ritchie Blackmore left several years back and Jon Lord just retired. Don't know who replaced Lord but the guitar player is very good. |

Hey fellow lovers of great music, just wanted to share this with you all. Sacrid Heart is playing in Maleton this weekend. This band only plays a few months out of the year, so it's a real treat to see them. Their site is http://www.myspace.com/sacridheart .
The site really doesn't do them justice. They truly rock! I heard them do Stranglehold and couldn't believe how awesome they were - just like the album! My husband sold one of them some music equipment, and that's how we met them. Definitely worth checking out. They'll be playing at Reids Deli this Saturday 9-1 and a place in Smyrna called Reds Timbers (?) next Saturday. We are definitely heading to Mableton this Saturday!! Woo hoo! Rock & Roll! |

You know, Sandra, I'm not sure. That used to be my ole' stompin grounds, but that was a long time ago. Persuaders used to be in Hawthorne Plaza though! That was a fun place, for sure!
But, as far as I remember, if it's still in the same place, it is in a little shoppinig center on Bankhead near Hawthorne. If you're familiar with Mableton from a long time ago, there used to be that BIG pet shop in that shopping center. Are you thinking about coming? That would be way too cool!

I lived in Mableton for thirteen years.I worked at Sunshines dept store.Persuadors was allways too wild for just about anyone to go there.Now the police dept is close by,maybe they keep it quieter nowdays.I had not thought much about Mableton for years.

Man, I used to have a blast at Persuadors! I was pretty wild back then, though! I had a little house a few blocks away (Socktown) and could 'wobble' home if need be!:) I remember Sunshines! Do you remember Spa Lady? I went there for years. Mableton hasn't really changed much, from what I can tell.

I remember years ago going to Mableton. Us folks in Carrollton referred to it as "Atlanta." Believe it or not, it was long distance to call anywhere in Metro Atlanta from Carroll County. Where Reid's Deli is, there was "Perfect Pets and Fishes" and "Hodge Army Navy Store." Also near Hawthorne Plaza there was a Jerry Lewis Cinema (Lynyrd Skynyrd played there) and Buckwheat's music, Grants, Sunshines, A & P, and a Woolworth's store. Oh, and the "Shrimp Boat." The place was booming. Seems like a lot of folks from Western Georgia (Tallapoosa, Buchanan, Bowdon, Carrollton, etc.) moved there in the late 40s to work at Bell Bomber Plant (Lockheed). Remember if you went on 78 to Atlanta, it was like the country. Lots of pastures and agriculture. I have been through there lately and it seems sort of depressed. Oh well, just and old guy reminiscing. |
