unless you are connected to the Douglas County School system you can forget getting your child into the IB program! It's a program that is geared toward the teachers children and other even though they out tested and out performed the other children don't get in.
That's not true. None of the kids I know in the program are the children of teachers. There may be some, but not the majority.

While IB is an excellent program, it is not the only good thing at DC. Last year's star student for the county came from DC and he was not in IB. When was the last time any of you visited the school or spent some time there?
Good point. and I have a friend whos son went to Lithia Springs High. He graduated with honors, didn't have any trouble, loved it there and goes to Georgia Tech now.

I agree! There are some kids that work at Ingles on Fairburn Road. They all go to Lithia Springs, and by George, they are good kids and smart, too. One guy graduated this past year and is now going to Southern Poly. LS may not the best school in town, but some of the kids are making the most of it.

DC held a ceremony the other night in their theater for students who were inducted into the National French Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society. There were over 60 new inductees. It was a candlelight ceremony and very nicely done. There was a reception hosted by the students afterwards and they were considerate, silly, happy teens. A young man who is now a French teacher at Factory Shoals Middle gave a very nice speech about his experience with the Douglas County school system, DC in particular. Great job DC teachers! It's about support and showing up, parents. Oh, and don't forget mentoring. I challenge you all to go on your local school Web site and email your child's teacher. Ask if there is anything they need or just say thanks.

So much of school is what you put into it. If you are an involved parent and expose your kid to various things then your kid will end up educated reguardless of which school that they went to.

Yep, its what you make of it I think. I've said a hundred times; kids learn more at the kitchen table then they ever would at school.
