It is also important to note that up until a few months ago,Bank and Trust handled the pension fund investments for both. The fire pension fund went to Edwardsville a few months ago and the police pension fund is currently seeking a new home.

the City Council will use the passing of their fire chief as an excuse to either cancil the meeting or make some lame excuse as to why this tax thing is a mute issue ,its called COVER YOUR ASS for now till we can sneak in and cover up the real problem.
There will be no cancelling of the meeting, the CYA was already attempted in the press release, and like it or not "their chief" was the City of Litchfields Fire Chief, yours and mine alike. So please, do not even approach the threshold into disrespect for this man that gave so many decades of dedicated service for the good of the people.

the old saying about opinions, and what their like.

employees will pay for their misconduct with their layoffs. trim the budget with action against the ones that caused this mess. also DECADES tells ya how long I.ve been here ,but can't speak for other,Im no super hero.

Finding a new home will do nothing if the boards continue to invest in the most conservative investments. They will continue to yield 1% return. The pension boards decide where and how they are going to invest, the banks follow their instructions. So until the pension boards change their investment strategy the taxpayer will be left to pick up the diffeerence.
The actuaries say they need to return 7% to make sure the fund grows at the correct rate~ guess who is paying the missing 6%.

That's all fine and dandy finding an investment in the stock market that will yield 7% when every 10 years the market crashes and you lose 50% of your investment. Just look at 2008!
The problem isn't just return on investments it's how the pensions are set up. I said earlier that early retirements and too many workers on the payroll has made these pensions unworkable.
The first step is unfortunately less employees on the city payroll.

Only one thing to say here. If you do cut backs and layoff's, make sure you do it in the correct departments. After all you can not save money if you cut the wrong person (s). You have to go to the department(s)and at 120 East Ryder where the problems are.

No offense to those on the pension board, but wouldn't it be common sense to have some actuaries, CPAs, or people that have actual knowledge of pensions?

This is stinking. None of this is right.

Legally, how can people on the police and fire boards vote to cover their mistakes?

How can people, who benefit directly from the pension funding, be allowed to vote on it?

It's unethical. Textbook definition.

Why not make 'engineers', jewelery store owners, electricians, and handymen exempt form paying any taxes...better yet, let's subsidize them.

But seriously, is there any kind of oversight on this? A way to bring a audit? The "Schutt Tax" provided such a big windfall that they rushed the paperwork to Springfield so they could start collecting ASAP. Where is that money? How does the water plant keep incurring bills? There are so many WTFs happening.

C'mon bluebox...unleash the lawyers!
It's almost torches and pitchforks time!

If they pass this, it won't come back. The city of Litchfield is remincent of that movie, "The Blob". It just consumes, and grows, which demands more consumption.
We need a grass root organization that will demand an accounting of city government. We need to meet, take names, work out an agenda to correct this. I will guarantee that if we canvas neighborhoods who elect these alderman that pass this tripe, we could turn enough votes toward a fiscally responsible candidate, and reverse this towns fiscal malarchy that has been running wild for far too long.

Do we really need a "city administrator" who is paid a 6-digit annual salary?
Do we really need a full time tourism director, and economic developer?
Do we really need a 17 full time person police force, with at least 17 cars?
Do we really need to be funding that asinine museum?

I can guarantee you that an unorganized group of ranting individuals will be written off. But, an organized, calm and informed group of citizens willing to dedicate their time to roll their agenda back will scare the hell out of them.
Lets stop playing small ball and put these small town plutocrats out of business.

Good assessment. You are correct in your approach, but don't be surprised if it doesn't work. Wish you luck. They could also get rid of the water plant manager. Any idiot that sends emails to elderly residents and others that do not believe in annexation and calls them terrorist should be FIRED. Again, the waste of taxpayer time and money! Funny how they use their taxpayer funded computers for unethical behavior. The mayor, City Admin, and lil Ray, are well aware of this. Disgusting!

Anyone else find it surprising that the fire pension fund is administered by a bank in edwardsville?

Couldn't they find someone in Litchfield to do it?

After all we have four banks, numerous investment advisors, multiple insurance agents . Surely there is someone in town that could have run the checkbook for them. b&T were not even contracted to give any investment advice. Just balance the checkbook!

Once again our tax dollars supporting another community

Are the pension board meetings open to the public? Perhaps a show of displeasure with their performance wouldn't hurt! Seems the pension boards have done a crap job, perhaps they should all resign and let someone take over that has a clue
