I am very happy to report to you that the thought of having to privatize our ambulance service has met its demise at this time. In an effort to coordinate a resolution to the pension problems as they pertain to the taxpayer, funding levels will be met through a cooperative effort on behalf of the ambulance/fire services and myself.
The only negative that is rearing its ugly head at this time is the initial hit of a $238,000 budget reduction to offset the cost of the shortcoming to the pension funding. Now I could point fingers at the cause all day long, but my efforts are better focused on the fix of this problem. And,take into consideration that this current administration has the general fund in a $250,000 deficit anyhow, one starts to wonder who the "bad guy" is in this whole situation to begin with. Especially when you take into account that the "accountant(Jones)" was on the pension board.
I am pleased to inform you that in my opinion, the new pension board has taken the proper steps to minimize the chances of this ever happening again. Therefore,I will be backing their efforts to right this ship 100%. This is not something that will occur overnight, however in the long term best interest of the community,I feel that it is on the right track.
At issue with me now,is how do we go about supporting those who have served this community for decades, that will not be able to meet the years of service vs. pension qualifications for meaningful benefits. I have a few thoughts at this time, but I could really use some feed back. Thank You, Tim

True that. I hope that post was a phony. You have to change the job to save the money. Spoken like a Firefighter to me. We found the 11 year old that they had in Wisconsin a few years ago. The numbers are messed up here to Buddy!

Wasn't there a post on here (or maybe bluebox) telling how Rockford privatized and was seeing a savings as well as better service?

Also, shouldn't those on the board (especially those with the power to tax), resign over this f-up? Retaining the same people on the boards in no way fixes the problem.

Can someone explain WHY THEY HAVE PENSIONS? The people whose income isn't based on taxpayer handouts have 401k plans or invest themselves.

@Fedup
At least he's on here. No one else has the guts to face the public.(Not counting the city workers or the police officer who jump on to defend and threaten.)

Agree totally. Look at any worker who is paid by the taxpayer. Their compensation and benefits are so far out of wack with the average taxpayer it's unbelievable. Just go read the contracts for public sector workers.

I agree with this post and also the fact that someone had the guts to go out there and put it in front of the public eye. Now the public knows, if we had a few more people that would do this I do believe that problems could be solved, let the people know what goes on behind them closed doors. And I am not just saying this because Tim put out there either.

A good start would be the Litchfield teachers contract that's just run out. The pay increase and benefits were just staggering. Contracted for 177 days work and they get 15 days paid sick pay and 2 personal days. And they can collect up to 340 days which gets paid out at retirement.

The is a huge list of extra payments in there.

Go to the school website and read it if you don't believe me

Time to join the real world, along with the majority of us private sector taxpayers

It's funny that a person (Tim Reents) drawing a public sector pension is telling other public sector workers that they make too much money isn't it? How hypocritical is this?

Oh, not just any public sector pension my friend. Retired ISP Captain Reents retired with benefits and 80% of his pay, probably about $150K annum. Not bad, not bad at all. I wonder how many retired teachers bring down that kind of dough?

Wonder what happens when the state pushes pension costs back to the school district, apparently the draft legislation says they can't raise property taxes to pay for it.

400,0000 in extra costs is a lot to find, maybe the teachers could be persuaded to give up a little after all they want fair wages and benefits. It's only an extra 5000 from each of them, sure they can afford that

The property taxes will skyrocket, and "read" the proposed legis when it passes through the house and senate - I am sure it will be different that what you just posted. They will find a way to tax the middle/lower income people just like they always do, one way or another.

So Tim now that they are taking a few transfers every thing is a ok ? Don't you remember how many times this has happened in the past. How many of your friends have been left waiting hours for a transfer. I thank it is time to privatize our ambulance service. We can save our city $200000.00 a year.

fed up ,sometimes you;ll find some aldermen in this city TALK one way ,and when you turn your head the wind blows their voice into the other
direction, like who they back for Mayor, thers more than 4 (bobble heads) sitting in those chairs and dam sure some trying to get there, don;t be fooled by the fence setters, like you say taking more transfers because the spotlite is on again
won't last lng enough to save those pensions or jobs. there been to many lies and to many games played , missuse of taxpayers money won;t just GO AWAY, someone somewhere has to pay and it shouldn't be the taxpayer.
