Aren't they the people involved in the Tracey Thurman case? They stood back while her abusive husband threatened her even though she called the cops like 8 times... They didn't really take any moderate action until the guy stabbed her a bunch of times and then stepped on her head, leaving her paralyzed. Even then they didn't act accordingly. I'm not to fond of this police force...

torrington police are pathetic
they prey on the poor and the young if they're not busting teenagers for a little weed, they're harrassing tax payers last night a torrington police officer told me to "get out of "HIS" town" i have lived here for 23 years and i am seriously distressed with the lack of respect the officers have for the pubic |

I have been harrassed by Torrington police. Anyone else out there want to share their experience?

1 I, like others, have a story to tell and sadly, it's not a good one. CMW, it's been a while since you've posted so I'm not sure you're still conducting your investigation. If you're willing to share a bit more about your experiences and your intentions, I'd be a bit more inclined to be forthcoming. I think you might be quite interested in my experiences (I can barely believe them myself). Meanwhile, suffice it to say that it's my opinion that Torrington is ripe for a police civilian review board (if anyone is interested, please contact me and I'll do my level best to work toward making this a reality). Although they have city-run boards (see more at www.torringtonct.org ), they're often headed by the mayor himself. Isn't this a bit like a kid investigating thefts in a candy store? It's important to remember that, while we each have our own experiences, it's likely that there are many more stories out there. I encourage anyone with a story to speak up. There truly is power in numbers and by speaking up, it'll take the power right out of their hands and back into ours, the taxpayers. After all, we're the ones that foot the plowing bill for their cushy parking lot... |

I have lived in Torrington 35 years and have needed the services of the police department several times. Once for when my car was broken into, another time when I needed advise about a complaint I had with a neighboor over land, and the last time when I needed them to work in conjuction with another state police dept on a crime in another jurisdiction. Each time their service has been exceptional. I find the officers and detectives to be very friendly, helpful, and in my opinion they get their job done. All of my experiences have been positive ones.

I have actually been arrested by the good 'ol TPD a few times, and every time they have treated me with respect (even when I wasn't so respectful back)I don't have any complaints against any of them

Is the person from Plantsville still visiting this site? I have had a very tragic experience with the TPD.
|
||||
Yes, I still visit. |

Does anyone know how to get a copy of the television film that dramatized the Torrington Police handling of the Tracey Thurman abuse case? Is it rentable? For sale? Where?
Thanks. |

I think this was an unfortunate situation for poor Ms Thurman due to some untrained or old fashioned "good ole boys" that lived where "the man rules" and thought that his wife was his possession and he could do what he pleased to her like they do in third world countries.I believe that because of this law a lot of women have been saved from creeps like this. But why did it take a law suit for 2.3million to make it a law in the U.S. God Bless America.
