Birmingham reviews petition to annex Brighton

A petition asking Birmingham to annex a small west Jefferson County town awaits action from city officials after being certified by the probate office.

i think that birmingham shouldn't annex brighton because they are better off staying with the county. the crime is going down while ours is still going up. the mayor for brighton just stepped in office at least let the man take a shot at it. so just worry about us first please.

Thank you Birmingham resident for your comment. Most Brighton residents are not interested in becoming a part of Birmingham and that city's problems. Our new mayor is on track to make some positive things happen in Brighton. It makes no sense that the person behind the annexation is no longer a resident of Brighton but of Birmingham. The question is why is he now trying to pull us into the quagmire which is Birmingham.

The majority of the citizens of Brighton have no idea of what is going on pro or con annexation. Most of us are making judgements based on what has/has not happened in Brighton, during the last administration. We want a city that we can be proud to call home, we want it protected by police officers/fire fighters. We want accomodations in our City so that we don't have to go to surrounding neighborhoods to get a loaf of bread. We don't have a pharmacy, post office, reputable grocery store, cleaners (sometimes), emergency health-care facility, shelter, florist, nothing but fast foods, gas, and corner stop and shops, burned down buildings/houses, overgrowned lots. I am for the new admnistration having a chance, but at the same time, the citizens must step up and help. The same people speak for Brighton. We need Brighton to take an active part in what is going on and what it will take to move foward. Until the people step up, we are doomed for failure. The State might as well come in and lead us by the hand.

I grew up in Brighton and moved when I graduated from high school a few years ago. My family, however still lives in Brighton. I can not WAIT until the day that I can make enough money to move them out of there! The new mayor has done NOTHING that he promised to do during the campaign! NOTHING! All they do is try as hard as they can to NOT PAY THEIR POLICE OFFICERS AND FIREMAN! They give them NO benifits and expect them to work long hours.
