It wasn't closed 5 decades ago. Maybe as an elementary and high school, but not as a school in general. After Coalmont, Jasonville and Midland schools consolidated to Shakamak School, the Coalmont buildings became a middle school for 6th & 7th grades until May of 1985. Lots of memories in that building.
