This is a perfect example of pit bulls attacking someone that the owners probably thought were nice animals. Why was there five running wild in a pack? They should chew the owners eyes out like the dogs did that poor old man!

Heaven forbid someone shooting a pack of these critters out running amuck..They would be hounded from the community, probably arrested and given more jail time than if they killed a person...Everyone has this "Bambi" attitude about dogs for some reason....they seem to think they are all like the family pooch...It seems these things are happening more and more often...

Here it is if someone else is having problems seeing it too.

UNION, W.Va.-- Monroe County police plan to file more charges in a dog attack case now that the 70-year-old victim has died from his injuries.

Sheriff Michael Gravely says Lindside resident Lowell Bowden died in a Roanoke, Va. hospital on Friday.

Bowden was attacked by four or five pit bulls near his home last month. Four of the dogs have been euthanized, while police are determining if a fifth animal was part of the attack.

Four people were charged with misdemeanors stemming from the attack last week.

Gravely says Bowden's death means police will soon file additional charges.

19-20-20. Keeping vicious dogs; humane officers may kill such dogs

Except as provided in section twenty-one of this article, no person shall own, keep or harbor any dog known by him to be vicious, dangerous, or in the habit of biting or attacking other persons, whether or not such dog wears a tag or muzzle. Upon satisfactory proof before a circuit court or magistrate that such dog is vicious, dangerous, or in the habit of biting or attacking other persons or other dogs or animals, the judge may authorize the humane officer to cause such dog to be killed.

Most people want those type of dogs for one reason. There is illegal activity going on somewhere.

The owners should be charged with nothing less than involuntary manslaughter. If you are going to keep dangerous animals and they cause harm, you should be held accountable as an owner by their actions...

I heard inv. manslaughter is a misdemeanor. Does anyone know if this is true or not? If it is that is not enough.

Pit bulls aren't worse than most other large dogs, they have to be trained to be so mean. With all of the drug activity down there it wouldn't be surprising if they were trained to guard somebody's drug crop/stash.

you guys should do some research on pit bulls...that's the problem, people only believe what they see or hear from the media and the only media that pit bulls get is things like this. these dogs are taught human aggression. i personally own 8 pit bulls and none of them are aggressive. i don't deal drugs and we don't believe in fighting them. we breed them for the sole purpose of showing society what a "real" american pit bull terrier is. Do your research people, please.

When channel 6 news released the story on tv they had a local veterinarian stating that it is within ALL pit bulls to have the streak to be triggered to turn mean....IN THEIR GENES.....thats why your homeowners insurance goes up if u have one or you cant even get homeowners when u own one. As much of an animal lover I am I have to believe the veterinarians statement....a person is dead now because the dogs turned on him like he was another animal. Just really sad all the way around.

Why would you have EIGHT (8) pitbulls? Are you a breeder? Animals require care that costs $$. I do hope you are well-to-do & can afford the animals & your 2 boys, but PLEASE -- make sure those dogs, that you believe are not aggressive, never have the chance to maul your sons. It sad to read the stories of the non-aggressive animals who turned & mutilated or killed humans - especially young defenseless kids. Even nice, friendly family pets have been known to cause harm - keep your kids safe.

The ONLY type of pit bull that is safe is a DEAD pit bull. You can magnify their aggression with training but the desire to do the things they do are inherent to the breed.

I have Border Collie who tries to herd groups of geese, kids etc. I have never trained him to do this he was bred to do it. For this fact I will KILL any pit bull who approaches me without the owner present. It will be my assumption it is intent on harming me or my family. If law enforcement gets involved I will say they were aggressive. I say to owners of pit bulls keep them penned up tight because the season is open as far as I am concerned.

My sister had one she raised from birth She loved that dog more than her husband some days. He bit her once and she hid it so he wouldnt find out finally he got on one of their other dogs and he had to kill it to get it stopped. I am the last one to say anything is by nature bad from birth but by nature these animials are unpredictable. My old dog is 13 and wouldnt bite you if you really hurt him but my sister never showed him anything but love. They have the agression bred in and in a group they do what comes natueal which is to find prey and over take it. Sad but true its not the animals fault but the owner make a choice to have that type of dog then they have to be able to contain and control it. Having several of them is just not good for the owner ot the dog. I am so sorry for what that old gentleman had to endure and for what the owners are about to have happen to them. No winners in this just pain and suffering but a good lesson for the rest of us.

I have two of these dogs and i dont use them for fighting, they sleep in my bed! Im very sorry for the man who lost his life and his family. These dogs have such a bad reputation and and if you look at statistics Rott's do more killing than Pits. I wish people wouldnt treat these animals bad or fight them but some animals just turn out mean. MY niece was attacked by a collie at age 2, but that NEVER made the LOCAL paper! And that dog had bit our kids and people, we later found out, and not little bites either!..An ear came off one child! AGAIN sorry to the family.. I would like to know the rest of this story, where was the man when this happened and why were the dogs running free? but remember all dogs in packs have tendency to hunt and kill-
