Anyone have a clue

About 15 minutes ago, my parents and kids were outside and noticed a strange red hue in the sky, it almost looked like a gas/chemical hovering above us. A few minutes later, my uncle called from a few miles away, saying the his neighbor saw the same thing and so did my uncle after going outside. Anyone else see this? Or have a clue as to what this is? Very eerie and weird, never seen anything like this before. To clarify, this was not a light...more like a huge puff of red smoke.
