The passing of Prop 2 in Tuesday's vote has not left over 2,000 kids without a bus come September. I believe the wording of this prop was confusing & a large number of the people I have spoken to thought a "Yes" vote extended bus service for our kids. It in fact made the miles to get service longer. Kids in middle school need to be 1 mile or more from school before they qualify for a bus. Hundreds of kids will be crossing Montauk, Hoffman, Delaware & Sunrise (all death traps) along with hundreds of more cars driving to/from school. Good luck getting thru town during pick up/drop-off. What can be done?

You really think it's ok for a 10 yr old to be crossing major intersections. Let alone the pedophiles who will be lurking around now that they know all these kids are walking. If you really believe that u are not a parent.

A few yrs back they changed the buses from 3/4 to 1/2 mile. No students got abducted or killed.. It does stink and the students once again have to suffer. Why didn't the teachers hold their salaries for a yr. Enrollment is down how about get rid of teachers!Distgusting! But remember, its for the children!

They bad thing is we didn't save that much money. You are talking about 600k which boils down to about $20 per year more. Try getting it back to what the milage is this year. That will cost us $500 a year more. Never agree to give up what u got, you will never get it back, especially for the same cost as u have it now.

When I was young I walked to school, up hill, both ways, in the snow. Builds character.

someone of you people are rude and have no common sense! What happened to safety first for the ELEMENTARY KIDS. I can understand for secondary ed but not for a 5 year old.

Glad you walked Mr./Mrs. Mt Sinai! You are probably the one we have to worry about, sounds like you are so ancient and need to be off the streets or you ARE the perv looking at the kids. So which one are you?

Some of you who have posted are rather ignorant. First of all you must either not be a parent and if you are it is obvious not a good or caring one to say the least. Due to the passing of Prop 2 my 5 year old daughter has lost bus right. Now a young child who has two loving and caring parents who look out for her best interest and both have to work to provide her with a roof over her head has no way to get to school. So for all of you who feel that a mere $20.00 in your pocket is better than the protection and safety of our youth should think again. Those who do not have children yet should think about what they will do when they have children and those of you who are older and your kids have grown up think about your future granchildren - then you can all blame yourselves for what you have done for all of our children.

Wow, what a winner - forgive me for writing quickly and making a typographical error, I am sure you have never experienced that. Quite frankly, I am a highly educated college graduate with a very good job in Higher Education Administration who finished more than High School before, as you write and I quote "makin" a baby.
While walking may be good for us, it is not appropriate or safe for elementary school children to be walking to school on thier own.

Dear Village Idiot:

You should not have had children if you cannot take care of them.

You are just out & out rude. No reason to call this person names because they care about the safety of their children. I now know you do not have children of your own, because someone who has children would understand exactly where we are coming from. Kids safety 1st & foremost.

the person from Mt. Sinai changes his/her name all the time and has no common sense and is obnoxious. Don't listen or let "it" get you upset. Read the other posts and you will see this person is mental. On here a lot so I'm guessing not married, childless, and unemployed and most likely down right nasty!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations are in order here because you went to college. Hip hip hooray!!!
Millions of us walked to school (elementary/middle/high) and survived to tell the tale. Perhaps you can teach your child some basics of personal safety. Try starting with walking on the sidewalk and not in the road.

Most of Lindenhurst DON'T have sidewalks. And still I'm not understanding why the highschool range wasn't changed? Could it be the board members kids are all in Highschool and they use the transportation? Well the answer is, YES!!!

The Highschool milage was changed from 1 mile to 1 1/2 miles. Trying to have the prop put up for a revote. Power in numbers - attend school board meeting on 6/2/09 @ McKenna building

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Libra

You're full of empathy and affection today, so it would be a shame not to spread it around. It's a marvellous day for a low-key get-together with some of the people you haven't seen during the past few days, because you'll enjoy having a good chat about what's been happening. Once your social duties are out of the way you'll love curling up on the sofa with a good book or a favourite film.
