My family is considering moving to Lindale....We have small school age children, and I am very concerned about their education...is Lindale a good place for raising a family? What are the people like? We live in Henderson, TX now and it is a miserable little place...Please advise and be brutally honest about Lindale....Thanks

I HAVE LIVED IN LINDALE FOR ALMOST ALL MY LIFE AND I AM 39. I BELEIVE THAT LINDALE IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE AND THAT IT USED TO BE BETTER THAN IT IS NOW. WHEN THINGS WERE MUCH SMALLER. I BELIEVE THAT THE SCHOOLS ARE 2ND TO NONE. I THINK THAT IF YOU CAN FIND A BETTER PLACE THAN YOU WOULD HAVE TO SEARCH HIGH AND LOW. THE ONLY THING I WOULD CHANGE ABOUT LINDALE IS THE HIGH SCHOOL TAXES..

My son and grandchildren live in Lindale and they really don't like it, the schools don't have enough Excel classes and unless you are in a high income bracket you just won't fit in, the whole family can't wait to move in Jan.

I have lived in Lindale 5 months and on the third day here I knew I had made a mistake. If you contact code enforcement (really cant go into much detail), within an hour, literally, they have notified other people of your complaint. The schools were damaged in a recent hail storm and the children now have to attend classes in various churches. The severe damage would never had occured if the buildings were properly maintained in the first place. Now they are out three million dollars, money that could have been used for better things....The first week my kids told me one classroom had a bucket in the corner to catch water leaking from the roof. That should have been an indicator months ago to(HELLO) repair the roof in case heavy storms happen. We have been accused of not living here by the school because I could not produce an electric bill....the reason for this was a postal error I had no control over. Long story short, the constable circled my house and waited three houses down the street to obseeerve my morning activities. My kids saw the car and needless to say it worried them. They were dealing with relocating, new place, new everything and didn't need this additional stress. They are children. Various staff members regularly give my kids dirty looks even now. One teacher even told my daughter her pants looked like something her grandma would wear....my daughter was crying in the car after school because of her new nickname....Granny. It's an extremely good ole boy attitude. They have nothing better to do I guess. Lets not take our boredom and possible disappointment in their own lives on a kid.... I have to say there are some good teachers and staff members. I would not be fair to leave them out...thx

It is horrible....that is an understatement. city won't spend money on stop signs, repair of potholes, curbs, sidewalks....schools are not properly maintained, that also is an understatement. mold growing in corners of ceilings, hail storm caused 3mil worth of damage early spring 08. This should have never happened HELLO...if the proper maintenance was done, the roof would have held up.
The mentality at the school is "good ole boy and good ole girl". Very unsophisticated and the teachers frequently say "ain't" Have even heard one say "I ain't got no"......so very stupid. Whole staff also look as it they are fresh from the late 80's....The town is just lagging behind the rest of the world, stuck in a unflattering time warp.....Is it a nice place to live,, sure if you have no ambition, no grammar skills, don't mind your kids being taught by wannabe's (one teacher, Terry Striplling even looks as if she doesn't bathe regularly). Know of on couple in particular from the North Texas area who disliked Lindale so much, they couldn't even finish the school year...It's like being caught on a strange and outdated planet, basically it sucks....

I will be the first to agree that Lindale has changed quite a bit in the last few years. Looking over some of the comments people have posted, it's obvious that you must not pay attention to the news....whether it be in Lindale or a larger 'more civilized' area. It's funny how someone so eager to critize the Lindale School District or the teachers who teach there, isn't first in line trying to make a change. I agree that the money given to the schools could be used in a different manner...but did you take into consideration how much money has been spent making repairs. You can not make a drastic change overnight...it evolves. Someone with so much 'education' would realize that. I grew up in Lindale, went to Lindale schools, etc...I know for a fact that I have a fantastic education, and last time I checked I had ambition. Common sense would tell you that small towns are going to struggle more than larger areas. So what if we are outdated, and as far as the hail damage...give me a freaking break. Hail damages pretty much anything that it hits, given the size. Lindale has grown into a thriving community in the past 10 years. Before you blast the education that the city has been giving students for the past years, maybe you should look farther into the issue and take a stand and try to make changes for the better. Obviously bitching makes you feel better, and if that's how you feel...then we really don't want you here anyways.

One would bet you have had a problem every where you have lived. Some people have the knack of finding something to complain about. You are causing your children more harm than any teacher could possibly do in one hour a day class room.
You try to show yourself as intelligent, but actually, you come across as stupid.
Now, make yourself happy, go out and find something to bitch about.

I have lived here for about a year, and So far I love it. I have yet to get into the school system because my daughter is only 3, but I do worry since this is such a small town, will she have a harder time since she is biracial!? I know there are black people here and white people but this is such a small town, and lets face it small towns have a bad rap deserved or not!!

Lindale is one of the best places to live. We've been here almost a year and love it! It is true that the property taxes are quite HIGH....actually ridiculous considering that they gather so much money from everyone and yet the schools are without, makes no sense! Somebody is using all that money? What I find the saddest is that people will lose their homes if they can't pay the property taxes, this includes the elderly.

Sometimes you wonder....why do we pay property taxes on something we already own? We have no say so in what it is being used for, who uses it or how much we would like to pay, do we? It's pay or we take your home away....who made this up?? I have yet to find it in the Texas Constitution or the US Constitution. It's either a direct or indirect tax and these property taxes don't fit in there! I have no problem paying my fair share of things and I do, but I believe I should decide what my money should be spent on,not someone else!

Each year our money seems to buy less and less. The average family works harder and harder each year to put food on their table for their families. If anyone knows what we can and cannot spend is us!
