L&L Southern Cafeteria

Someone today recommended I come check out this site. This one is a new place for me.
I was reading with some interest in a variety of threads what some folks had to say about L&L. Seems the majority of comments I'd seen were within the first month or two of L&L opening up, and there were some very positive comments, and some others where folks had some criticisms. Glad I got to read both.
If you're among the group who've been to L&L and enjoyed your experience, I'm certainly glad to hear all about that. If you're among the group that came in and had a less than positive experience, I certainly want to apologize for that, and ask you to give us another shot.
I noticed that the majority of comments offering some criticism seemed to primarily be directed at the portions. I noticed one poster commented that it often times depended on who was dishing out the food. Yes, for the first bit there, we had some issues with a number of our staff members who weren't properly portioning out the food. Although human error sometimes can creep into the equation no matter the time ... that's an issue we feel like we've mostly licked now. A majority of our diners ask for to-go boxes, or comment they've had too much to eat at the end of our meal ... surely that's a sign that the portions aren't typically skimpy.
Another reason to check us out might be some of the changes we've implemented. Of course, we still have the cafeteria line where you'll find lots of your traditional, typical southern favorite. We have daily specials here -- as well as baked chicken, country style steak, roasted ham, and chicken and dumplings. We also have a slew of vegetables, soups, breads, homemade desserts, and more.
We have added a self-serve salad bar. The salad bar features over 20 items, homemade dressings, homemade croutons, pickled watermelon rinds, crab salad, chicken salad, tuna salad and more. You can enjoy the salad bar as an add-on to your meal, you can get an all-you-can-eat salad bar, or just a one-trip salad; you may also want to pair up a one-trip salad with a cup of our homemade soup.
We've also added a menu ... folks who don't want something from the cafeteria line can come in, grab a seat at a table and order from the menu. We have a full line-up of appetizers -- including our Guns & Roses, Fried Pickles, Jumbo Chicken Wings, and more. We have our Prime Rib on Friday and Saturday -- you won't find any better, anywhere! We also have Filet Mignon and Ribeye, we have a smoked Bourbon Street Chicken (a half-chicken), we have authentic cajun Jambalaya, Charleston-style Shrimp and Grits, tons of seafood dishes (fried, blackened, grilled, etc.), and so much more. We also have a ton of sandwiches including our Bionic Burger (a full 2/3 lb. burger), our Prime Rib Sandwich, our L&L Big Club Sandwich on a Croissant, and so much more!
On Mondays and Tuesdays (and many times other days of the week) we offer our Recession Smasher -- that's an entire Baked Chicken Leg Quarter (that's the thigh and leg) with mashed potatoes and green beans for only $3.99. On Saturdays we offer any cafeteria line entree with 2 vegetables for only $5.55. We have sandwich specials and other cafeteria specials everyday as well.
So anyway, there's a sampling of what we have to offer. We're located in the Lincoln Center Shopping Center between Belk and Bi-Lo. Drop by, be sure and say howdy (I'm usually up around the register), pick up a menu, have lunch or supper with us...
I'd love to get to know you, and have an opportunity to earn your patronage.

Awesome, that you checked the place out and read the comments. It can get heated but I think you have to realize a few things its a forum like everywhere else so that means you get there kinds of people.
1. Who strongly believe what they type. This might be negative it might be positive but either way they strongly believe it. It might even be wrong. It doesnt mean they are stupid or anything just maybe less informed.
2. Sometimes people are just "trolling" they are looking for a fight basically. They may actually like the place or maybe even work there or visit everyday they just simply wanna rev peoples engines. Some call it immature...others call it having fun with forums.
3. I could consider it as part of two but its really not and its that some people just wanna go against the grain. The reason why its different the difference is these people can often have their opinion changed and will change but they just might not admit it.
I think you understand this. I have been to L&L only once and I enjoyed it. The people I was with did not. To me they just didnt understand that type of cooking where as me I loved it. I got the country style steak with rice and extra gravy. I loved getting this in highschool it was pretty much the same idea just a bit larger.
I noticed the other day when the traffic lights were down that L&L seemed to be closed I saw a sign on the door but was on my way to walmart couldnt see why. I know you close different times of the day to cook and all but I believe this was different. I think the new Super Walmart will actually help your resturant for anyone out of town checking it out or ofcourse whatever moves into the old walmart if its new type of store someone will see L&L and want to try.
You must of had a fun time reading all the comments. lol

That's what makes forums/message board or just the world, in general, a lot of fun -- variety is the spice of life. I'm not sure I caught all the comments regarding us -- the ones I did read were buried in threads where the original subjects were other businesses in town.
L&L is pretty much traditional southern style cooking ... with some variation here and there. Of course, now with the full slate of sandwiches -- Reuben, Burgers, Club Sandwich, BLT, BLFGT, and tons more & with all the steaks, the seafood, shrimp & grits, jambalaya, and other southern favorites that are cooked to order (in addition to the stuff on the cafeteria line)... there's something for everyone.
Curt is a classically trained chef who's served as head/executive chef at some of the finest establishments in this neck of the woods and other parts of the country as well.
We'll see how Wal-Mart moving affect everyone in this shopping center. I believe a lot will center on whether or not another business relocates into that space. Of course, we're all hopeful that something moves in, and that it's something that will serve as a great anchor for the entire center.
I'm not sure what you might have seen in regard to us being closed. I can't recall a time that we haven't been opened during what should be our regular hours ... not since Christmas. We have put up a film on the windows to help with energy efficiency, and that oftentimes will make it appear darker inside than things are in reality. We've had a variety of signs on the windows/doors -- most recently for something Lamar Company was doing in the parking lot of the shopping center for kids and families (that was held last Saturday).
Hope you'll come in and check things out again in the future. Blessings.

Another website you might wanna check is merchant circle one word together ofcourse .. I think outside links get posts deleted here...
Anyway...go there and you will see a search. Search your resturant and a pre-made page will pop up. It has a map your phone number all that stuff.
It also has customer reviews although not currently.

Thanks John, I'll check that one ... I'm aware of Yelp!, of course, Google Places, Urban Spoon, and a few others, Merchant Circle is a new one for me ...

It looks like L and L is finally going down!!! Last visit, food seemed to be left over from steam table and was luke warm. We left not very happy, probably will not go back. L and L started out nice, locals would not support it, must be because the Restaurant had class and did not sell beer!! Sorry to say , there is poor turnout and seems to be going down hill fast!!! Lincolnton continues to be taken over with outsiders and they came here for jobs. There is none, maybe they will go back north etc! Never have seen so many rednecks!!!!
#11 Apr 24, 2011
Did that last part imply the outsiders from the north were the rednecks?
#12 Apr 24, 2011
I'm sorry that you didn't let us know while you were there that you had issues with the food. We certainly could have corrected things and made your experience better, but that's difficult to do if folks don't tell us when they have an issue. I hope before you decide not to return to L&L (or anywhere) that you'll let folks know the problems or concerns you have, and give an opportunity to correct it.
I don't know if you're implying that we need to go back north, but my sister and I were born and bred right here in Lincolnton (actually out in Boger City -- within spitting distance of the new hospital). Deanna's husband, Curt, grew up in Gastonia, but moved to Lincolnton some years ago.
I don't think, at all, that we're going down fast. Like just about anywhere else in town, we wish business were more brisk than it is, but we figure that as the economy continues to very, very slowly improve, and as more folks find out where we are, that things will improve. Just today (Easter Sunday) I had 20 or more folks tell me they had just found out that we were there ... it seems quite difficult to get folks to break out of their routines and take note of new things, and give it a go.
In any event, hope you and your family will come back in sometime ... come introduce yourself to me. I'm out front 95% of the time -- so I'm not tough to find. I'd certainly like a chance to correct your last impression of L&L.

Those people are not rednecks!! The food is good!! Lincolnton is a hamburger town and is a horrid place to live. I think the poster was saying the town is redneck not the Anderson's. The town is a bunch of hillbilly rednecks so there!!! L and L would be a big hit around the Lake or Charlotte!!!!!
#14 Apr 25, 2011
I dont think thats true...although I dont really disagree either... I should explain.
I live in Boger City and quite young but I dont give a .... for Lake Norman or Charlotte and I hate having to go to Hickory or other places to shop. It should be right here. Like you said Freddy, horrid place to live.
However, I do feel I am more open than others who live here much like Dave pointed out about having 20 new customers telling him they just learned about the place.
Thats lincolnton. They hate change. They dont want newer stores they dont want new roads or new anything...they want to make everything special and classify it as historic even if its not.
Lincolnton likes the idea of family owned and small business and just like many other small towns they feel that "evil big box" is out to get them at all costs.
With that said a Resturnt like L & L fits perfect. Thats not a bash or anything thats actually knowing your market...problem is people have to be willing to venture out. I am sure those 20 people you mentioned probably thought it was still Little China Resturant. But if they knew what the place was and where it was they would go more often.
I have never been to Aunt Bessies. Dont care for it. I am sure its a nice place with good food but its just one of those places that feels like I should be friends with the Mayor or meeting with The Sheriff ... or I should be over the age 80.
I understand town pride. I have nothing against it. My only issue is that Lincolnton isnt as Small as some people wanna pretend it is. Its a fantasy. They believe its some small town where they can get a hair cut at floyds and whatever silly reference we can make to Mayberry. And I am sure SOME people feel they live that life here in Lincolnton.
But the Truth is... everyday I have to get up and go to work in Charlotte. I have to go to the movies in Hickory for a decent theater. I have to buy my electronics and games at Best Buy at wherever I choose. Even my older granparents still perfer to go to Belmont and Hickory to visit Roses since we dont have it in Lincolnton anymore.
And they are those who are just fine..."as long as Lincolnton stays Lincolnton I dont mind the drive" attitude... yeah?*looks at 4.00 gas...* really? I can't afford to do that...but if you can then you are a richer man than I.

John in Lincolnton,
Aunt Bessies sucks!!! I tried it.
Sorry to hear L And L might not make it.
Zippers is nasty!!!
Wendy's hamburger joint!! Stills kicks ass!
#16 Apr 25, 2011
Pete ... if it's a hamburger you want, and you don't mind it being fresh (never frozen) ground beef ... then head on over to L&L and try one of our Bionic Burgers. It's 2/3 lb. all ground-chuck beef patty, and comes on our signature bun.
It's awesome, and I don't mind saying so myself.
#18 Apr 26, 2011
Thanks Sandra ... and glad you enjoyed the salad bar and the burgers. Our salad bar is completely different than most of those you might find in our immediate area ... all the usual suspects, plus crab salad, chicken salad, tuna salad, pickled watermelon rinds, homemade dressings and more.
All of our sandwiches are really good, honestly. Club Sandwich on a Croissant is wonderful. My favorite is probably the Prime Rib Sandwich. I'm not much of a fish eater, but two of our more popular sandwiches are the Tuna Melt Croissant and the Grouper Sandwich.
There's just lots of great stuff on our menu to try ... steaks, seafood, sandwiches, and more ...

Thanks y'all . . . come see us anytime.

I think you owe the owner an apology for trying to ruin his business ! IF you did not even bother to try to get your meal fixed then that is your own fault. You must be a troll trying to start trouble. Go back to where YOU came from, but not until you apologize for making such a comment. Read the other post also for now you got other folks thinking they are going down. SHAME SHAME SHAME (just as Gomer would say it, lol John)

If I am not mistaken they close inbetween hours to cook a different menu so I dont think anything could be left over from lunch.
But you should always complain if you feel the need. If you feel wronged. If you feel short changed. Would you just walk out of a place if they didnt give you correct change? No. You would complain and get your money.
Same thing, if your food is undercook, cold or wrong in anyway, you should send it back or complain. You dont have to make a scene. You dont have to yell. You dont have scream at the top of your lungs or throw your food on the floor. You just simply tell them.
I have ate there before never ate inside though. I have got take out multiple times and each time I have got home with my food and the food was still just as hot as if I sat down with it and I live about 10 mins from the place and I took 15 mins to actually sit down and get everything ready to eat.

It's alright ...
While I would prefer someone let me know when things don't satisfy them, so that I might have the opportunity to correct things ... it's their prerogative to give that criticism or not give that criticism. Me, if I'm gonna complain, I try to do it to and with the ones who can correct the issue rather than simply complain to the general public who will simply be able to listen to my complaints without any means to correct the problem. Different strokes for different folks.

There are a number of good restaurants in Lincolnton . . . if you don't find something to suit your taste at one place, you can surely find it elsewhere. We all have our likes and dislikes -- what I don't enjoy, someone else surely does, and vice-versa. Hopefully Lincolnton will continue to benefit from a number of good, strong restaurants . . . and stores . . . and entertainment options.
