Here is a video clip of the local news channel playing the actual 911 call recording. Watch, listen and decide for yourself.

Sgt. McFarlan should have received a more severe punishment for his lack of judgement. He must have forgotten what his job was. The girl's father just had brain surgery, I think anyone in that exact situation would not have handled it much better, especially at 17 years old.

The police officer should have been fired and the girl's family should be receiving a large sum of money for the incompetence.

Well, it was pretty stupid of her to cuss out the 911 operator, but obviously that is no excuse for the 911 operator to hang up. People do get stressed in emergency situations.

It is also inexcusable that the 911 system failed so badly before she finally got through. But I see the article says very litle about this.

The cop got off easy. The girl's family should not only win their case but counter sue for damages and court costs.

He should have been 'Effing fired.' Seriously, he couldn't deal with a cuss word? and when did we start arresting people in America for cussing? That dumb F could have cost a life with his arrogant attitude.

You're exactly right. Luckily this man is ok or the officer would be responsible for his death. 911 is a tough job and very few can do it. Btw- her charges will never stick as she did have an actual emergency.

<eyeroll> Not everything is compensible monetarily. You must be related to the judge who sued the dry cleaners for not having his pants ready on time.

Now that's something! I remember one night I called the cops on my sister's (who was 17 at the time) 23 year old boyfriend because he refused to get out of our house.

The police got there and told me I had no right to order him out and that I could get arrested for filing a false police report.(This was with the Sacramento County Sherrif's Department back in 2007 mind you.)

They told me a 17 year old girl has the right to have a grown man in her home if she wants him there and I have no right to tell him to leave.

At the time my parents were vacationing in North Carolina and left me with the monster known as my younger sister. I was 19 at the time.

I remember that being the worst night of my life. I almost got arrested because a 17 year old nitwit couldn't keep her legs closed.

I feel for the girl in this story. I remember back when I was younger and my older sister was trying to report a car accident and she called 911 and there was a 15 minute wait before they could get to her call. Outrageous.

As frustrating as it may be sometimes, the 9-1-1 system has to operate with the notion the caller (i.e., customer) is always right (...for the moment) and deal with any inappropriate activity later. In the meantime, send the fuc&'n Ambulence, and Cops if need be! What an a-hole this Sgt. Robert Mcfarlan is... I'm sure if it was him on the other end of the line, under similar circumstances, he'd be worse -- because he's a badass with a badge and attitude. Toss him on his arse for being an inconsiderate dick.

Sue for what damages? Maybe the girl should sue her good for nothing old man for the lousy job he did raising her.

She sounds like my wife. Little potty-mouth.

Kudos to the chief in this case for suspending the cop and ordering more 911 training. This sounds like a small department where the police double as 911 operators. As for the cop, what a bumbling jerk. No apologies, "no comment", he should be investigated for false arrest as well.

The cop should have said: "Calm down, no reason to swear, I'm here to help you, what is your emergency?" Hell, maybe I should apply for his job.

She didn't cuss him out. She said the F word in anger when the phone kept ringing at 911 and she couldn't get an answer.

He happened to hear it and got mad about it.

We had a dog that was dying one time and I couldn't get the vet on call. You better believe that I was cussing while dialing his number over and over again.

The dog died 20 minutes later while I was desperately trying to dial.

The cop was over the top, but if people would work at 911 one day they would see how this could happen. People call in highly emotional and cuss out and verbally abuse the 911 operators get . No way would I do that job. NO WAY! I have friends who do it, and I hear some of the craziest stories.

I saw the video clip and couldn't believe my ears. They suspended him for only 2 weeks, then hwe was back on the job with more training. Is this the kind of emergency operators that are being trained to save lives? It's truly scary!
