Why USA Must Not Pay Libyan One More Cent

News reports recently disclosed the detention and likely torture of an unidentified US citizen in Libya. This person was arrested without a warrant on February 10, 2013 along with three other people accused of spreading Christianity in Libya (an Egyptian, a South Korean and a South African).
The name of the American was not released. He or she is being held in a jail cell for weeks (over a month now).
The Egyptian who was arrested at the same time was tortured. His name was released. The Libyan authorities examined his cell phone and arrested everyone he talked with in recent days-- they arrested several more Egyptian Christians whose only apparent "crime" was living in Libya and talking to him. And then, one of these people was beaten by the Libyans and he died in prison after being tortured reportedly.
Now some news reports claim the Libyan government is charging the four Christians arrested last month on February 10th with spying. This is an amazing and incredibly offensive charge coming from the Libyan government.
Why? Consider that just last year, the Libyan government allowed the US Embassy to be attacked. It was left undefended while a mob looted it and murdered the US ambassador and several other American citizens who had gone to Libya for peaceful purposes of establishing friendship with that country. It was the job of the Libyan government to protect those official visitors.
But our government still gives considerable assistance to Libya.
The US government presently has a budget crisis-- yet America provides many thousands of dollars to the Libyan government every year. Why? So Christian visitors there can be arrested for owning copies of the Holy Bible and tortured???
People in Egypt protested the mistreatment of their fellow citizens by the Libyan government. People in the USA, South Korea and South Africa need to do the same thing.
The mainstream news media is not reporting about this story on the evening news yet. But these well meaning Christians must not be forgotten. Pray that they will receive better treatment and keep their story in front of the news media and government officials.
