I was really surprised that this article didn't make it to the Lincoln news, or at least the ASPCA.
Too be shot that many times & then have to drown, unreal. Sounds like it was a case of target practice.

(“I think they are changing their stories,” he said.“The animal obviously had to be very tame to stand there and wait for them to shoot it 23 times. They should have been able to shoot him with one shot. There’s absolutely no call for what happened,” he said.
Beckler was also angry that the deputies left the animal in river for almost 60 hours.
Yocum said when he talked to his deputies the next morning and found out the animal was still there, he immediately made arrangements with a rendering service to have it removed.)

I believe the law states that animals MUST be removed w/in 36 hrs. So, who broke the law here?
If the Sheriff Dept. can't handle "county issues" maybe they should be working for the city police dept.

Here is a suggestion for a solution to this type of very sad situation which might assist everyone: when a large animal-car collision occurs (bulls, horses, deer ect.,...) and an injured animal will not leave the road, have a protocol/procedure/statute allowing or requiring the authorities to call a licensed veterinarian to assess the animal before taking further action.

It may be necessary to euthanize (mercy kill by specific means) the animal. But it may also be a situation in which other measures are possible. Veterinarians could possibly suggest best safety practice measures in this situation also, since maintaining the personal safety of the veterinarian and all other people is of the highest priority in treating potentially dangerous animals or animals in potentially life-threatening situations.

It is no doubt very stressful and difficult for law officers and emergency personnel who are concerned about the safety of members of the public to handle this type of potentially dangerous situation-- working in tandem with veterinarians would be a better solution. They are actually trained and qualified to make decisions about whether an animal can or cannot survive after an accident-- the police are not necessarily well trained in that issue.

Sheriff Joe Yokum and his trained livestock killers. Who's a bigger danger to the public you and your deputies or that bull. Always take the easy way out, we have the Seward goverment on our side. Screw the farmers and the public. One 2500.00 dollar bull isn't worth diverting traffic for awhile until two lazy deputies could find any local farmer who could handle this matter. MAYBE you should trade your guns in for a ear of court, jerks.
Something else I was wondering. Since Seward is a farm town in the most part. Did you tell all the Seward Voters that if they vote for you (you) will serve and protect them. But they should buy livestock insurance because my office won't deal with anything that doesn't listen to orders. Did this poor farmer have to pay for the rendering truck, 23 rounds of ammo, the owner of the bull and what ever other city expenses that occured.{If this farmer voted for you he deserves this luck!}
