0 stars - Completely unprofessional, painful experience
I had such a horrible experience with this data recovery shop that I've decided to write this review, so no one else has to go through the same experience. First of all, it is painful to simply talk to Dat Boyz. The owner (and as far as I can tell, only employee) thinks that he is some slick businessman with all of his bit talk, but he really comes off as a pitiful cheap used car salesman. I should have gone with my gut instinct after meeting him face to face, turn around and walk right out the door. For whatever reason, I signed a contract and gave him my business. Big mistake! Second, it took SEVERAL MONTHS for me to get my hard drive back. He is terrible at communication, and I felt as though my business meant nothing to him. He made many commitments to call me back with estimates, timelines, etc. Not once did he ever call me back as promised. And every time I called him for an update, it was like he had never met me before. He never had a clue about the status of my case but would promise to look into it and get back to me. Hey buddy, you have a small mom-and-pop shop. You don't know who I am after receiving dozens of complaint calls from me? Even if you have a terrible memory, your computer is right in front of you...just look me up!!! I know the real reason that he pulled these tactics. He simply never worked on my case and knew that he had no progress to report. They were obviously delay tactics. The only reason that I got any results from him at all is because I started making threats. That got his attention, and he started working on my case months later. Then, he gave a ridiculously high estimate, which I knew was BS. I was being taken advantage of, so I told him to forget about it and I would forgo my deposit and take my business elsewhere. He called me back minutes later with a much more reasonable price. Then he wanted to charge me a ridiculous price for a new drive to transfer the recovered data to. I told him that I had a brand new, unused hard drive that I would provide him to store the data. He said that "the lab" would not do this, "but he would try to ask". I know that other data recovery labs are perfectly willing to do this, so I told him that I would only pay for data recovery on the condition that he accept my hard drive. Of course, "the lab" agreed. Honestly, folks, you cannot trust this guy as far as you can throw him. The extent of his lying became so ridiculous that I started recording our conversations, both on the phone and in person. I know that this does not hold up in Mass courts, but I figured that I could at least use it against him and show him that I caught him in his own lies. Heed my warning and go elsewhere!!! |
