While getting gas at Kirkwood's this morning I happened to look across the street right into that
hideous mess that I think is supposed to be some kind of automobile shop. How the heck can something like that be allowed to exist right beside the Lima Town Hall?? What are our villiage officials thinking? What must travelers stopping to gas up think when they look across the street at that mess. Is this the same town that wouldn't allow Wallmart because it would ruin the looks of out Villiage? Where is that woman who was going to "clean up Main Street" and wash everyones windows. I don't know about other people in the villiage but I don't know how the politicians can
didcate to us about rules and regulations when they turn a blind eye to the mess right beside their building.

it is our own fault. we need to take a stand.

we allow that mess. we allow the drug dealers. we are too busy to volunteer for the ambulance, fire dept, crossroads council.

who regularly goes to village and town board meetings? if you do are you involved - do you help or hinder, are you on a committee? or do you show up once and while to whine about something?

if we as a community are not working together for the betterment of our community; then it is destine for oblivion.

get involved, get your parents involved and get your children involved!

I have a job and a family and vote people in office that are supposed to take care of these things. I do my part by being a good neighbor and keeping my own property in order. If everyone did the same we would have fewer problems. Let the villiage officials who get paid and enjoy the fruits of their policical power, such as it is, do their job. If they don't care how scabby their village looks my trying to reason with them won't do a bit of good. I know that from past experience. I heard a lot of people saying how everything was going to be wonderful when we voted in the present group of loosers and all I see is the same old ----same old.
So lots of luck.

Down here we look out for our state. If we see some abusing their rights, like throwing garbage out their car windows, we just take down their license no. and turn them in.usually if a person does it once- they will turh around and do it again. surprise-caught!It has to be done to teach them that it won't be tolerated. You should see the fines-they are not cheap. Best thing is to hit them where it hurts worst-the good old pocketbook. Right??????????

We have laws in place and it is the job of the Village officials to enforce them. That's why we pay taxes and vote. That IS my point.
GET IT ????

You have a problem we get that. Whining here will not get it fixed. Get involved!

It is kind of like raising children - there are two ways of doing it the first is sending them to school, the second is a bit more involved send them to school, make sure they do their homework, help them with it when needed. When they are not doing so well in school take corrective action. Meet their teachers.

You can keep the officials accountable, show up at their meetings, let them know you care, help them.

Or stand back and watch our community crumble. The choice is yours. GET IT!?!?!?

I don't have a problem the villiage has a problem.
But I guess I am the only one that sees it. If everyone went to the board meetings with all their little gripes it would be like Walmart again and nothing would get done anyway. If you enjoy looking at the mess go for it. These people get elected to office and they are grown ups not school children. They profess to be the best at running the towns and villiages. They think they know better than the rest of us what is good for Lima and that anyone that disagrees with them is just plain stupid. I just thought I might point out that it is their job to inforce the laws without me or anyone else barking at them all the time. The choice isn't mine. I didn't elect them.
But I do pay taxes and I don't expect that it is my part time job to leave my family alone after I have worked all day to attend meetings and beg officals to just do their job. Sorry if that offends you.

Ok, one last time I will try to make my case clear and then I give up. Lima has a code enforcer and a supervisor. There is a huge mess right on Main St. and neither of them seem to care. I posted my opinion just to see if anyone else noticed. But I guess I am in the wrong to question it because I choose to expect them to do their job without my constant supervision. So enjoy the view.

When you talked to the "code enforcer and a supervisor" as I am sure you have, what did they say?

Now granted I live more than a mile away and I usually support the local family business and purchase gas at Kirkwood's and I have lived here more than a few years, BUT, it wasn't until last week when I was walking around town with my girlfriend that noticed the mess you are talking about (please forgive the horrible grammar).

We need to face the facts that Lima does not have enough law enforcers to find every law breaker there is in Lima. You could help by turning yourself in every time you break a law. Remember 1 mile over the speed limit is speeding (extreme but true). I am sure the DA will cut you a good deal.

Now that I have grumbled for a bit, I will restate my question. When you talked to the Lima officials what did they say?

Lima like any other small community has some people that can get away with anything and some that can get away with nothing. It all depends on who you are or who you know. I've written about a certain bar that smells of urine that is housed in a building that's falling down, but it never gets printed...probably like this comment.
As for the speed trap grip, I think you're right on.The same officers that give thoughs tickets out ought to open there eyes as they go into the village court...there's most likely a drug deal going on in the same parking lot there parking in. Now I've had my whine I think I'll have a wine.

The mess next to the town and village hall is in the VILLAGE of Lima. Village Mayor Carl Luft, Deputy Mayor Jean Lacey, Trustees Jerry Warsaw, Paul Fleming, Joe Schwing are in charge of the village. The Town Supervisor has no say in the village and got put in his place for trying to help with the mess that creep Ken Schreib left behind Kirkwoods on Buell Avenue. The building inspector is the mayor's brother Paul Luft.

The house and garage next to the Town hall does look unkempt, but Iím not aware of any village code that states you have to paint your property. To the best of my knowledge as long as the property is livable the village or Town code enforcement officer canít do much. As for the former K and K stripping building I as a tax payer donít want to foot the bill for the cleanup of that property. Let the county sue the previous owner for that bill not the Village of Lima.

I don't believe the original complaint was about the lack of paint on the buildings, but all the material scatered in the yard and driveway. There is an ordinance (I know from experience) against having an unlicense vehicle on your property. Evidently that ordinance does not cover parts of vehicles.
The comment about the Town Supervisor brings up a valid point. Why does a community the size of Lima need (and pay for) two seperate governmental entities. Towns and villages with much larger populations have combined the two. Maybe having only one local government would encourage an election where the incumbents are not running unopposed.

I like the idea of dissolving the village. Some one start the petition and I will sign it.

Looks like the TB has finally decided to go forward by getting rid of that idiot on the Planning Board. That clown almost shut down the GCC project on his own with his egocentric rants and agenda driven vendetta's. Good for the TB. They are looking out for our town!

The GCC was a great project for the town, can't even imagine anyone being against that one. The TB deservses many kudos for that decision. Now if they could only develope a plan for a village bank project...oops, I'm forgeting about that unnecssary road block, the VB....where's that petition?
