Fact of the matter is as great as the fundrasiers are they simply aren't enough. Healthcare costs in this country are astronomical, and health care decisions in this country are not made on the basis of helping people but on the basis of how it impacts some corporate fat cat's bottom line. That is wrong and needs to be changed period. Unfortunately their are some people (the President and Republicans in Congress) who are standing in the way from getting any kind of meaningful help to the astronomical costs of health care in this country because they want to keep it a profit first industry instead of a health care industry. And as a result many middle class and working class families in this country are left without insurance, or don't have enough insurance. Some are screwed financially for life if they are lucky, others just look at the case in Philadelphia.<quoted text> Okay, first of all, was I judging anyone? Did I say his parents went to the goverment? I was speaking of another family who seeked goverment help, and were told no! I said nothing about them wanting a free handout!
Second, I'm merely speaking of fund raisers ect..sponsored by people who want to help others, rather then asking the government for help.I know of alot of these fund raisers which have helped alot of people, who have needed $'s for medical treatment. Others posting here were also speaking of goverment health care.Third, nothing I'v said was directed toward this boy, or his family! And yes, there are those in small communities who pull together to help "our own" meaning " friend's, and neighbor's. This has nothing to do with a child specifically! "Our own" can mean anyone. Don't judge me until you have thoroughly read my post, and understand what is meant by it.

Business owner's want to keep their employees working part time hours so they don't have to furnish healthcare for their employees.Which president was it who promised affordable health care for all? When I had cancer, and needed a life saving stemcell transplant, the doctors were going to postpone the transplant until they were absolutely certain my health insurance would cover the procedure. So, if I hadn't had the insurance to cover it, I would be dead! This is just flat out horrible!
I know fundraisers don't collect enough to cover all the costs, but they do help somewhat.

Also, I'm happy this child was helped, and will hopefully be able to live a long, and happy life! But what is going to happen to the millions of children who develope childhood illnesses? Since alot of these kids don't have insurance, are they just going to be givin a cheaper less affective form of treatment, or none at all? Either way they will most likely die! Answer "yes" I'v already witnessed it happening!

Agreed, which is why we need a complete overhaul of our healthcare industry, and need national healthcare. Healthcare decisions should be based on how it impacts peoples lives, not how it impacts profits of multi millionaies. Unfortunately we have a President who believes profit first, sick people second is the way our healthcare decisions should be made, and too many members of his party in Congress believe the same
