I am very sorry to family for their tragic and public loss. I am also discusted by the insensitive and uneducated people that have responded to the forum. It is one thing to voice your opinon, but another to call names, judge and make fun of the dead. May you never know what it feels like to lose a loved one is such a horific way.
I have several thoughts and questions that will never be answered regarding this situation. I wonder if the family knew that she was drinking or drunk. Did she drink often? Did the family try to help her?
The most important question is: Could this situation have been prevented? Instead of blaming the horse or the person maybe we should think of ways that this situation can be prevented in the future. Maybe we should take a look at our own family dynamics. Do you have a loved one that abuses drugs or alcohol? Have you tried to reach out to them?

Roxanne, I agree with your thoughts. Nobody is perfect. And nobody should judge others (those in glass houses ......) But I do think it was legitimate for the news to bring up that fact that she was legally drunk, and that somebody knew her posted that fact that she was a heavy drinker. Why? Because without this knowledge, I think many people/public would be behind the family and a lawsuit - and it would promote a somewhat negative reputation of the police/mounted patrol
I feel for this lady and her family - any loss like this is horrible.

Thank you KAS for putting things in perspective.
I was not trying to spread gossip but I just wanted to get the word out so that people didn't blame the poor horse or the officer who both must have suffered trauma of their own.We are all given the gift of life to spend it as we choose.Too bad that this woman couldn't get the help she needed to help her to find a different path.
