This just proves Aloha couldn't figure out how to run their business and was dying with or without Mesa being around. The previous bankruptcy was the right time to purchase new planes and it should have been turboprops. Look at Delta, they purchased new planes during their bankruptcy. Instead, the same dirty management team stayed on, not even a new CEO, and they only cut the employee's pay. Good riddance. Just let Hawaiian grow and expand, as they become more successful, they will hire those displaced by Aloha's demise. Better to have one strong, solid, locally based company rather than two mediocre ones.
Excellent posts and rebuttals Tsar...with all the inside dope Mesa had on Hawaiian as a result of the RFP, you'd think the latter would have been the one to fold.

Aloha can blame itself. Mesa acclerated an evetuality. I personally like Aloha better than Hawaiian, but have to hand it to Hawaiian for making it through.

Wow, you actually call an airline business a "class act". Now who is naive?
as far as the airline industry goes, Hawaiian Airlines IS a class act. As we speak all major US airlines are looking for ways to cut costs by cutting flights (AA is not just taking an ax to its costs and flight schedules, they are taking a chainsaw to it). While other airlines are nickel and diming for every little thing, Hawaiian has only done one extra surcharge outside of the ticket price (2nd bag starting for trans pac flights in june).

In relation to the story, go had 5 jets in the islands (4 for scheduled service and one as a backup) and were flying 62.75% full. They add 3 jets and move to 68.51% full??

so you add 60%-75% capacity (depending how you view it) and only gain 55% increase in ridership? yes that is more riders, but in the process of doing so they are losing more money.

The only way that good news will come for go! in the islands is if they are flying at capacity and charging $79(and rising with the price of oil) one way fares. Then they may actually turn a profit.

To operate for fares much less than that for too much longer is suicide for go!

People keep talking about the age of Aloha's fleet. Ok it was old but guess what, they were strapped for cash, the old planes may have been gas hogs but they were paid for. Go price out say 10 brand new 737's then figure out how to pay for them with a $19 fare....no matter how you slice it GO! intended to drive one or both majors cariers out of business and is just now realizing their pockets were not as deep as they needed to be....bummer.
PAID FOR????? Get your facts straight... aloha's planes were being leased!!! Hello? Some of them have already been repossessed by the leasing company!! The older planes that suck gas are still sitting on Oahu because the leasing company doesn't have anywhere to put them. Aside from Alaska, no other state allows to fly that type of 737 because of noise restrictions.

yes, you'll be paying more... but think about it... the price of a barrel of oil is TWICE as much as it was a year ago.

actually, the few remaining 732's still here are owned by the company and are only still here because they are awaiting the liquidation process. Basically seeing if anyone will buy them. the rest of the 732's on leasehold were already flown back to various locations around the world.

Thank you Go!. We need competition. Hawaiian Air gouged the public before with fares over $200 and they are doing it to us again.
Thank you go! for what, Susan? Are you actually OJ using the name that your porno pete gave you when you have those "sex me up" parties? I always knew you where the b!t@h.
Please give a quote or some link on those $200 fares that you pulled out of your ass... or did pete do that for you...
So what ever happened to those "we'll always have $39 fares" go?
