What did you expect? When tourism is down, tax revenue is down. If you don't watch out, they're going to start going door to door, listening for dogs barking and cats meowing, to hand out violations of pet license laws.
This is just the beginning.

BAN EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE (Just kidding, the legislators might take the recommendation seriously).

Personal responsiblity is all that is required (dogs on leashes, prevent from biting, clean up after pets). Enforce these simple rules and everyone lives harmoniously. Oh, I forgot. We're talking about Kauai, the unfriendly isle.

The dog ban was a sneak attack by nitwits. It is a form of punishment by take away directed at people who have done nothing. Justice would be better served by simply outlawing the behaviors abhored by the prissy city folk writing in previous posts. Why punish responsible people? All these problems can be legally mitigated. Irresponsible dog owners will be out there regardless.

Get real. The Kauai police should instead focus on neighborhoods where people are speeding, especially in areas where children are walking on the roads.

I called many times and gave them the days/times, but didn't see the police park and monitor the speeders. They drove around the neighborhood They expected me to take down the license plate nos., etc. That's asking too much and doing their jobs. Frustrating!!!!

Don't do the crime, if you don't want the fine.

There are others that call with dog bite injuries too.

is this some kind of joke? maybe the same laws should apply to pit bull alley on the leeward side of oahu
again, it is laws for some and close your eyes for others;frankly, i think the woman i saw defecating on the beach in front of the 7-11 squatter beach is worse than a dog, or is she? what kind of a ticket do you write for that?

People who let their dogs crap wherever they want are undereducated microcephalics. I guess the dogs wipe their anus on the carpet when they get home? Why do some people like dogshit so much? Do they lay down on the dog feces in their carpet while they're watching TV.
Why do we give citations for paper & can littering but not for littering with dog crap?

We don't need Rabies here.
How are we going to introduce the Rabies virus into Hawaii by walking our rabies-free animals on a pathway? And, FYI, the correct spelling for the animal species in question is Canine.

You are SOOOOOO WRONG. Certain members of the Kauai County Council have repeatedly pursued what seems to be a personal agenda to put whatever obstacles they can in the way of the Ke Ala Hele Makalae path. This path, since its inception many years ago, was to provide a safe pathway for pedestrians, bicyclists, and equestrians (YES - HORSES)

There was already an ordinance in place prohibiting animals in County Parks.

We asked to modify the ordinance in regards to the pathway, which the County refused to do. Again, those same certain members.

The large majority of people on Kauai support dogs on the path, with provisions that are reasonable: leashed, picked-up after, and of good disposition. No one wants antisocial animals on the path.

Remember, that path has been used for decades by walkers, bicyclers, and horseback riders. Everyone got along just fine.

I love dogs but I'll be dam if our county dish out $50M for a coastal walkway, dogs or no dogs. They need to spend it on solving traffic problems and maintaining our roads.

Plus where is all this money popping up from when they getting sued left and right. They need to wise up or get out.

This is stupid - people are getting all bent out of shape because of dog ground missiles...but then
get into the car and expel tons and tons of carbon monoxide through the lifetime of their driving careers. Which is more dangerous and harmful; dog turds or carbon monoxide? If humans responsibly picked up after their dogs in the first place, this wouldn't even be an issue. But hey, lets demonize the dogs.

I love dogs..but before the trail opened I came around the corner walking with my two small kids and was confronted by three loose pits running waaay ahead of their owner. Scary.

I would support dogs on leashes with a $500 fine for violations, but sadly we lack the manpower to enforce this.
