How many people in Latrobe actually know what the plans are for that building?Sara indicated that she was at the school board meeting when they discussed this. Did they ever discuss who the other potential bidders were, besides the church? Did they ever indicate why the problems of the leaking roof and mold in these basement were never addressed and allowed to get to a point that the building is now unsalvageable? Yea, its going to take a collective effort of the town's people to finally get up and make this happen. We sure don't have a history of giving a damn.
I think it's bizarre that a leader making $175,000 per year worked in a building for 8-years that was "crumbling before her eyes"? and didn't take action to fix her district's own administrative offices?

Why would any professional at that income level even go to work in such an environment?

That doesn't make sense!

Nor does the "urgency" of the sale of the building!

Hence, what I think is more likely, the building is more than restorable and various entities got together -- to create a narrative to serve their purposes -- and to hell with history!

Let's build a parking lot!

The Latrobe Foundation bought the building and later sold it to Jim Okonak's Presbyterian church adjacent to the building. The original asking price of the building was only $50,000

At the same time this happened, Jim Okonak's foundation, The Latrobe Foundation, made a "loan" to GLSD to "move its offices to" the old grocery store building on Lincoln Road. The loan to "move" was to be repaid at a "later date".

This seems to be a messy situation.

Why does a school district need a foundation to help itself move?

Why is there no money in the $42,000,000 -$52,000,000 GLSD budget to either a) fix its own building or b) pay a few thousands bucks to move out of its own building.

For example, if GLSD had sold the building, then why not use that $50,000 to move itself into the old RedCross/grocery store property on Lincoln Road.

There are too many fingers in this pot.

And, the $175,000 Superintendent must have been asleep for all the years she worked in the building.

Running away from debt on one coast in order to run up more debyt on another coast does not make you bi coastal, it just makes you a trans continental deadbeat.

The School District Superintendent, or was it a man for a few of the 8-years the building was falling into disrepair? Either way, two extremely well-paid people, working in an "unsafe and crumbling before their eyes to no return" building doesn't make sense.

I wasn't referring to you. I am sure you don't hang out in 1st Ward. That I know about you, you're too busy running a house and raising 5-boys. I was referring to Buster, that's why I quoted Buster.

Why is that?

Disposed of 2010 Plan

Greensburg, PA

#223 Jan 13, 2013
After reviewing Latrobe's 2010 Comprehensive Plan over this past weekend, I realized that Jim Okonak worked against the plan by tearing down the Armory.

The plan in several areas set aside the Armory to get attention, and the "professional" -- city planners -- deemed it a building worthy of Latrobe's Revitalization efforts.

Yet, the Latrobe Foundation bought it -- and tore it down???

-----Just how does one individual and or an agency or foundation get to work against a plan that was paid for the by the county and state -- to help Latrobe move forward?

-----Why was a permit given to raze the building?

-----Why did City Council and the Planning and Zoning Board permit this to happen?

I enjoy the thought provoking questions you put forward and about Latrobe and it's lack of progress.

I hope something something comes out of it someday.
