I love the Virginia Diner - they have the very best Southern Fried Chicken ever. I always get green beans, mashed potatoes and spoonbread with mime.
It's also a fun little trip to take the Ferry from Jamestown, which is free, to Surry and then just about 20 minutes through the countryside and farmland, by then I'm so hungry and the meal taste even better.

Virginia Diner holds very bad memories for me. As a youth I was not allowed to enter the Diner;service was offered from the back door after all whites were served. Virginia Diner is part of a racial setting that has scared my life for ever. I have lived in NY for over 40 years and visit Wakefield often, however you will not find me sitting in VA Diner. How good is the food?????

I go the Diner periodically when I visit Wakefield. Food is ok. I have heard the stories from older family members about not being allowed in the facility. Had bad service once complained to the manager and it was rectified.
