Other than Girls Basketball, is there any sport that Casey County does not suck at? I am not trying to be mean, so before all the “defenders of the sports” get started just listen. It’s just that when surrounding counties look at their schedules, they plan homecomings and other special events on the Casey Co, games because of a guaranteed win. Do we need to be paying coaches the money that we do to get beat everywhere we go? Surely we are not that far behind in athletics, like the question asks, are we that bad? Please tell me what can be done, it wasn’t that long ago that we had completive teams in sports, today without Girls Basketball, we suck!

Track is real sport and more difficult than most of your traditional sports. You are just a trouble maker upset because your kids obviously can't play sports.

What would it matter? If they ever won anything the school would probably give away the trophy.

I don't read the Casey Co. News because it is full of bull$h!t. Casey Co. will never have anything until it starts putting some effort into the programs and quit hiring good ole boys for coaches

Sports in Casey County has lost sight of the true meaning of sports and sportsmanship. It's not about teaching lessons to children and building up their character anymore. The so-and-so's have to have their children be the big shot sports children. It doesn't even matter anymore what grade you are in. There are plenty of children who would make great atheletes, but no one will ever know because we have to have the so-and-so's childrens on the team or they will just have a hissy fit! Even if it means a fourth grader plays on the high school team .. oh well as long as their parents have a little money .. Now, my children are a part of the so-and-so's, but I see some of their friends suffering because of this situation. I won't treat a child different because their parents don't make as good a living as some others. They are still good people. Sports should be played by the children in that age and grade .. Build up the kids that are in those grades instead of bringing up young children to push out the older ones. It's not about oh maybe they are better or good enough to be moved up .. it's about waiting your turn. Oh and if you can't get them moved up then maybe you should just coach so you can be sure they get that coveted spot on the team. I feel sorry for children in high school wanting to play high school sports, but there is no room for them because we have babies on the teams. Yeah they redid the locker room, I guess they had to put in a diaper changing station for some of the athletes.

i don't know about the rest, but the football team is trying to make something of theirselves... they have been lifting hard in the weightroom and have accomplished some major task. their whole offensive line is at LEAST 100-200 lbs. stronger than they were last year.

That is the biggest problem with Casey sports. They have put the quality coaches by the wayside. Here in Somerset and PC we have the same problem but you usually get what you pay for. The Big 3 sports such as Baseball, Football and Boys Basketball have really suffered in the past few years. I think the kids are at Casey because they are no different than our kids. A senior would not have many wins if he had played all 3 sports for 4 yours. 37 in Basketball, 11 in Baseball and only 10 in Football. Where will it end?

Looks like you are having a conversation with yourself. Was that not you on the first post? Every county has at least one of you around.

I think you need to go to a few more games and have your old eyes checked if you are seeing fourth graders play in high school! In fact I have not saw an eighth grade baby play on that team that did not deserve a spot on the bench!

Which sport/sports are u talking about where the younger kids play over the older kids and also is this boys or girls???? ALL sports are different when it comes to putting a competitive team on the court/field, etc.

I mean that my children play on sports teams .. I'm not rich and I'm not poor .. I don't have hissy fits or fuss and fight for my children to get on a team or get a certain spot. If they make it fine and if they don't, well then they learn how to deal with disappointments in life. And before you go spewing out comments on the disappointments in life comment I'm saying that if they try out for a spot with kids their own age and its based on their ability and not because someones parent is a coach. I'm not trying to single out anyone and I can't change the way things are now. I'm not trying to fuss about it either. I just want people to THINK about the fact that we are taking younger children and allowing them to be on teams with older children. We sometimes have 12 year old kids doing the same sport as an almost 18 year old. There is too much difference there. I just feel frustrated that some really good kids are getting knocked out of being on a team because someone decided that a 12 year old is better than or just as good as an almost 18 year old at a sport.(That is only an exaggerated example.) Let these kids wait their turn. I just think a middle schooler should play middle school sports and a high schooler should play high school sports .. even if your parent coaches. There are also a lot of athletic children who can't play sports because they live so far out in the county .. I just hate that for them. We could have had a soccer team, but the Athletic Director put an ad in the paper during spring break and had the meeting scheduled for the first day back at school from spring break .. now come on how many people are going to remember that? They don't want to start a soccer team now because they are worried about how bad the kids will be beat by other schools who have had soccer teams that have been playing together for years .. OK I get that, but it's not like Casey is #1 at very many things anyway .. and it's not about how many games they can win .. it's the fact that every kid wants to be a part of something. Are we still teaching comradery or is it that we can't play unless we have a fairly decent team?? Maybe the Athletic Director should take a look at his career of sports during high school .. he should know about the underdogs of the world. I don't have anything against him he is a perfectly nice guy .. but he wasn't the athlete he wanted to be. However, he at least was given the chance ... I'm really not trying to offend anyone I just have an opinion. Thanks

The fact is Casey County does not produce many quality athletes in any sport. Athletics is very, very hard work if you want to be successful. Taking a slogan from Little League, Prepare the child for the path, don't prepare the path for the child is something that should be taken very seriously. It is more important to win Tee Ball championships, Pee Wee basketball tournaments, etc than to teach our kids about the basics in Casey County. Even if a kid is "athletic" in Casey, can you imagine how tough it is to play football, basketball and baseball in high school especially when you lose and lose and continue to lose and nothing is ever changed. Does the school officials expect our kids to be "winners" when our teams can't even break even?
