Why are some mother in laws so critical of their daughter in laws? It's hard enough being accepted into a new family. Why aren't some of them happy to gain a member of the family, instead of pushing away family?

cause sometimes those daughter-in-laws act like they are better then the rest of the family.

I think most of the time it's just the mother adjusting to their son having somebody else to care of him. Cause everyone knows nobody can take of their baby like their momma.lol

Sometimes it's because the daughter-in -law is no good and momma knows it too.

i think its son-in-laws for the father to except and daughter-in-laws for mom--parents feel like they are not needed when a child marries

Well Ive got to comment on this one...
Not all mommy in laws are bad!
I lost mine in April after having her for 19 years,it has been a horrible time trying to move on..She was my mother in law and my friend { she passed away }
My opinon is,it is a two way street,you have to try to make the effort to bond with your husbands mother.Show love and respect and thats all you can do and hope you get the same in return,as I did.Remember it takes 2 people to make a relationship,just try thats all you can do.

I too can say that I had a very wonderful mother in law. She passed away a few years ago and I miss her dearly. She always treated me like I was one of her own children. I always treated her with respect and we got along so well. She was there when I needed her and I was there for her. I think about her everyday and know that we will see each other again one day. I love you maw.

I think the difference is just people in general. Some people just don't know how to treat one another. Also often someone has started a negetative rumor against someone and that is the reason for distrust and dislike by the motherinlaw. I have a wonderful motherinlaw who treats me like a daughter has since the first time I met her. She said if my son loves you then you are my daughter. I am very blessed and could not ask for any better in laws.

Hey any of you all could have mine, I would not trade my wife for all the money in the world but my in-laws I would trade for a juicy pile of dog shit

haha i have a troublesome mother and father in law...shes very nice and sweet but dont think when shes talking and says things she shouldnt... he on the other hand is bipolar and very hateful at times and does things he shouldnt.. my problems come when my step daughter is the " favorite" and trust me i love her to death! she was abandoned by her mom so I took her to raise at 2 & 1/2 :) just because we have rules with our kids the in laws hate it! so we always have problems when it comes to how we handle things with her... i dont treat any of our kids different and neither should grand parents! Sometimes i feel i could smack the crap out of them but i know not to because its my husband and childrens family.. so when things get rocky we just ask them to back.off and give us time to calm.down... and when exs are thrown up in my face by the inlaws haha i just say yep they messed up and i got him... im not bothered by exs so that gets under their skin more than anything... im very polite but once im pushed well people dont like it.. but they have delt with me for 6 years now so i think they finally understand im his wife the mother of his kids and im not going no where or pushing anyone out :) just stand your ground if people dont like you dont worry about it... everyone needs someone to hate makes them feel better lol
