That's the way our backward government works. I don't understand why they do it that way. My husband and I are lower middle class and we paid in around $4,000 and are getting maybe $2,000 of it back. I think if you get assistance. They should get your tax refund, up to the amount they paid to you in food stamps, Medicaid, wic, and HUD. That will probably never happen though.

If he was working he paid in and he can file earned income credit on that child if it is his. If he filed married he can claim her and the child as exemptions as well, what she drew on assistance before they were married has nothing to do with it. You tax payers who have a good job, a nice car a comfortable home, and food in the fridge stop worrying about others and what they do to get by. Are you that selfish or are you pissed because they are smarter than you.

I think your 9 or 10 thousand dollar refund is WAYYY exaggerated ! The couple you speak of would have to have at least 5 kids plus themselves for a total of 7. And only with Earned Income Credit ould they get THAT ! Somebody is blowing a little smoke at ya ! The Earned Income Credit will become a casualty of budget negotiation diring 2013. EIC allows you to get back MORE than you even paid in ! That is a DRAIN on the taxpayers and the Federal Treasury. NO MATTER WHAT, your refund should never exceed what you paid in. Besides, when MANDATORY partcipation in Obamacare comes in 2014, the tax refund will become history. Most people will have to sacrifice it ( out of necessity ) just to pay health insurance premiums.
