i hsve been in the house many times, the only real beauty of the place is the land and the outside of the house, inside it is just like many other houses, nothing out of the ordinary,

So, the hand carved fireplaces and staircase aren't extraordinary, in your opinion? There isn't another home like it in this county. Mr. Newkirk owned a furniture factory and employed craftsmen who were skilled wood carvers. You should take another look, I think.

It used to be the Paula-Mar nursing home back in the day. If you can find a copy of the 1963 Connersville Sesqi-Centennial book you will see a picture proving this. The guy who owns it kinda got in over his head on it. I was in it all over back in the fall. It probably needs $10,000 worth of plumbing and electrical modernization. The interior ? MUCH POTENTIAL ! If one put all that money in it, then tried to sell it, who would buy it ? It's a big "utility-eater". I would LOVE to live there...it would take someone with a little money to keep it up. With Connersville's future uncertain right now...then what ?

I've never been there. But, from the picture I could imagine it being a wonderful place; if not to live in, then maybe as a city project, or private project, if in a better financial time, in all it's glory, for meetings, weddings, etcetera. I can imagine that. If I was only rich!

the people living in that mansion are suppose to be taking care of it. the yard is terrible and their are questionable people in and out of there all hours of the day and night. the owner would do well to find someone to rent it!! or caretakers that will actually take care of it!!

When i see 3 cars leaving at the same time, that is not running back and forth, i think you two are covering up whats really going on up there. Thats ok cause karma is a bit&*. and like i said to the other redneck inbred, how can any of us mind our business when there is so much traffic and as far as the yard, yes we all need rain but the shrubs could still be trimmed. Keep covering up! that is what you do best huh?

Back to the Newkirk mansion, I inherited from my grandparents the original sideboard from the dining rm. It was made by Alexander Roux and it is so ornate.
My Grandmother said all the furnishings were fabulous. She took me in the house some 35 years ago and I too remember the "spiral staircase".

I know the caretaker his name is Tommy. Him and his girlfriend Leslie sell drugs from the mansion. Nothing but trash.

I wonder if the owner would ever consider selling the
house? I would love to restore it and live in it.

The current owner is holding onto the property until the local historic group can afford to purchase it from him, at a reasonable price, and pay the ongoing taxes on the place. It will be a while.

Does anyone know where I can find interior pics online? I have searched everything I can think of. I am fascinated by this house. I would love to tour it. Wasn't it open for a tour last summer?

Mark your calendar for June 9, the house will be on the Bicentennial Tour.
