Will Kentucky and the other 49 states meekly submit to the will of Senators Dianne Feinstein and Charles Schumer, or will they fight it every step of the way through a grassroots effort?

http://assaultweaponsbanof2013.blogspot.com Facts and statistics from the US Department of Justice and National Vital Statistics DON'T SUPPORT enactment of any "assault weapons" (sic) ban!

What I'm going to say is probably really politically incorrect, but here goes.

First off, I'm not sure of the real need for AR-15 type of weapons for personal use, but I can understand the desire for one, competition shooting and such. I've shot H&K full auto at gun ranges, and it is a blast, although much more than a 4 shot burst is tough for me to put on target, bad shoulders and the muzzle rise is a bitch.

The real issue to me is who is allowed to buy firearms to start with. Lately most of these mass shootings have been committed by some pretty mentally unstable folks, but yet they managed to obtain, through legal channels, some pretty heavy duty firepower and ammo. Also, if you really read the news, some pretty mentally unstable folk pushing people off of subway platforms, driving cars into crowds etc. The real threat are the bozo's, not the firearms.

Not going to be politically correct to come out and say maybe we need to have a hard look at these folks, the liberals will go on a tear. On the flip side, the gun lobby isn't going to want people to have to go through heavy background checks in order to help keep screwballs away from guns. The NRA's idea of arming everybody isn't the correct answer, would most likely put more firearms in people's hands that shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a gun.
