I hear a petition is going around town to have liquor stores approved for lexington on the ballot this year. I havent seen it, just would like to see what others think about this.

I'll sign it!!! We should be paying for the jail with whiskey tax instead of wheel tax....anyone agree?

We probably need the tax dollars cause Dyer has spent like a drunken sailor but the crime rate will go up and there will be more DUI's and more people will die.

I have to disagree with The crime rate and DUI because if people want it there gonna drive to Jackson anyway and get it...So why not legalize it and take advantage of the tax dollars.

Just drive to East Jackson and get out of your car and walk around for awhile. Then tell me about the crime rate and liquor stores.

Where are the liquor stores in East Jackson you racist? The only liquor store anywhere near east Jackson is on Whitehall in an industrial area. Most of them are in North Jackson. I know The Forked Vine just destroyed that area (sarcasm).

I use to have a friend that lived in East Jackson. His building got shot up in a drive by shooting. Why don't you go and live there you racist.

I really doubt the people of this town would approve this anyway.

Ok wise guy alcohol has ABSOLUTLY nothing to do with east Jackson and drive by's and you can't tell me it any different than Lexington heck we just had a murder in the middle of the county, so what's the difference. The Jackson liquor store didn't tell him to do it. Crime rate has absolutely nothing to do with a liquor store. Most killing and drive by's are gang related in Jackson or over dope!! Not Alcohol!!! Obviously you to big a puss to go to east Jackson!!!

That's about the dumbest thing I have read on this site.

I hope it does pass and the notion it would raise crime is just ridiculous.. People still drink liquor in Lexington we just drive 20 miles and pay taxes to benefit another city than our own to get it..and people who drink and drive are doing regardless if we sell liquor or not! Fact is the taxes alone would help our city and probably bring more businesses to Lexington like restaurants that have decided against building in Lexington in the past because they couldn't obtain a liquor license.

I agree with you Nicole, but i dont think liquor by the drink is on the ballot, just liquor stores, so that wouldnt help as far as new restaurants in town.

Parkers Crossroads has liquor by the drink. I dont see the crime rate spiraling out of control there. But then on the other hand, I don't see a lot of good restaurants going in either.

Alcohol leads to harder stuff. Just ask any kid who is now a dopehead. Most will tell you they started drinking in elementary school.

i would vote for the liquor law.people are going to drink and they do go else where to get it. the liquor in east jackson has nothing to do with the crime. crime is everywhere.
lexington may as well get the taxes from it as the next town.
not everyone who is on drugs drinks alchol. i do agree it is a legal drug and by choice for some people but they get it regardless.
guess a drunk took Holly.
it really would not raise crime rate because alot of the people who drink would get it and go home instead of being on the street.
we don't live in a perfect world and we can't make it perfect.

I think a liquor store will bring revenue to our town. True, hard liquor brings unsavory extras but also think about it...why is it that we can sell beer but not whiskey? It's a strange thing when liquor isnt allowed but beer is. I am for a new liquor store as long as it is a real respectable swank place like in Jackson by the school.

Well its like this..people are gonna drive to Jackson and get it and that's around 30 miles from here.So how many people have been killed on 412 drinking and driving.Ive lived here most of my life and lost alot of good friends to drinking and driving one of them was Tommy Slagle and I feel if there would have been clubs and liqour stores here he may still be alive today so they got my vote

dyer didn't spend money....the board of aldermen control the gov't not the mayor you idiots. the mayor only makes suggestions...he does NOT have a vote.

why are people so stupid? You could have hitler for the mayor and if the board didn't vote for a gas chamber there wouldn't be one. think before you speak morons.

personal opinion: liquor by the drink would open lexington up for more places to eat. a liquor store would make a killing...don't think the tax money would be that significant but would help. just limit the number of liquor stores the city can have and the proxemity to a church and there should be no problem. i don't think the aldermen lexington has now would give 4 votes to create that law though...sorry...don't see it

i will cetainly vote for the liquor. This town needs the revenue and it is silly to think that the fine citizens here do not drink liquor. We just support other towns! Get off your ass and if you only vote for one thing, vote for liquor! Its either that or you will have even more taxes!
