This redneck small town is so much in love with its romantic view of the Confederacy, that it refuses to acknowledge reality. Reality spelled: S-L-A-V-E-R-Y. In order to educate the poor, ignorant citizens of Lexington (including its elected city officials), somebody needs to portray what actually went on in antebellum times there. So, why not stage a slave auction? It's difficult to imagine a greater human tragedy in American history than buying and selling human beings as though they were beasts like horses and cattle. Of course, this would upset the delicate digestive systems of Lexington's neo-Confederate belles... Or, it might arouse their sexual fantasies about big, strong black men (and black women, too)!

Back in 2000, Confederate re-enactors approached the African-American pastor of the black Baptist church in Lexington (of course, the mayor attends the white Baptist church there) and asked permission to camp out on church property, complete with Confederate battle flags waving, etc. These neo-Confederate clowns, many of whom live in Lexington, were politely but firmly refused... Perhaps you should contact Lexington City Hall or the Chamber of Commerce there about purchasing slaves; they're the ones who want to keep that town in the 1850's!

I haven't heard a thing about some Slave Auction in Lexington.
...... I also heard the baptist church was asked to join in on the events ( booths and ECT.) of that week also. But " politely" refused. When you say , " camp out on church property complete with confederate battle flags waving" What does that mean to you? To me , It means a re-enactment!!! When most re-enactors that camp out they have correct 1860's*/ civil war time equipment.Which happens to include battle flags which both sides would have. Our goal was is not to keep Lexington in the 1850's. But to give a history lesson. To teach people. Did you know re-enacting is a hobby? Most people who do it see all points and views of everyone. And the civil war wasn't only about Slavery...It was also about states vs. Federal rights. Mr. LYON have you ever heard of the Missouri state guard? Meaning, Back in civil times. No today... Do you know who they were?

there was no slave action planned as an event in 07. Us back woods people seem to know a bit more than you Boulder. Blacks were treated even worse by the whites after the war that freed them! Read your history, not the propaganda thats thrown your way. Maybe some one just told you something so you believed it! And as for you Clinton, were nowhere close to dead. Right on JMZ

Amen to that.....I happen to have descended from a very similar situation. My slave master (great, great, great) grandfather recognized his white children and his black children. And when we were brought to MO he purchased land for his 3 children. We still own that 100 acres, and the 3 famiies have remained on the land. His 2 white children and the black child in the middle. As a child that has always been a part of my heritage and I love it. For me it takes a little of the sting out of the whole slavery stigma. I enjoyed your post...I didnt mean to be so windy
