Billy Joyce was an amazing man. He has touched so many lives in such a small amount of time on this earth. He could smile and your world would instantly be ok. It is a horrible that he was taken from us because he did not deserve this in anyway. So many are affected by this death and I hope that Belding realizes that he has not only hurt a family but many people who loved Billy and will miss him everyday.

It is Tragic how a stupid choice can take such an amazing person from us.

Throw the book at this bum. That means hard time served in a state jail for a long, long time. Motor vehicle homocide, fleeing the police, reckel;ess drving on a suspended license-A low life who doesn't give a dam about rules or law and order belongs away from the rest of a good, law abiding society. And the Wilmington Police better get their act together on effective media relations.

I heard about this early Saturday morning....nothing in the news...nothing on TV...Like the story says the press checks the police logs everyday for stories but the Wilmington Ploice were not forthcoming about something as BAD as this....ANOTHER POLICE CHASE ENDS BADLY. And oh by the way...the girl in Bill Joyce's car has MASSIVE internal injuries...I love it when they say "non-life threatening". Makes it sound so trite. How about months of hospitalization and Rehab. I hope there is an investigation on this one. Wilmington PD..you got your man but look what hell it has caused others...He has a license plate..couldn't you just wait for him to pull into his driveway?? He had to come home sometime...Someone has to have a conscience for this one

This story really doesn't make sense. But anyways in response to one post up there. A friend of mine was killed by a drunk driver and only got 90 days. He will probably get more just because he ran though.

I totally agree with the comments from the Police Wife. As for the Billerica resident I agree that this young man needs to be punished. But as a parent of a 18 year old I know we don't raise our kids this way. You have a young adult who made a very bad choice and his life is over as well.I am sure this will haunt him as it should every day of his life.

what do u know..its again not an elderly driver..the last 15 deaths have not involved an elderly driver..only one.. that tells me ..15 to 1 ratio..maybe its the young drivers who need testing every 6 months..

If this occurred in Chelmsford it's be front page news for a week.

It is sad though. I worked with the kid who is being charged for this heinous act. He now has pissed his life away due to a series of stupid decisions.

Once again the Wilmington Police Department Had
nothing Better to Do Like Usual...But chase a
teenager through Wilmington with a Suspended Licence. as a result, Killed an Innocent Person
and the Hurt you can never take away from the
Grandparents that Raised Him Just make Matters
worse and chase a Kid Does that make you Feel Better I thought the Police were here to Help
not put others in Danger what a Shame

I agree, totally senseless. The paper said they were trying to pull him over for a suspended license, so they must have know who he was. Why endanger the public, just go to his house or put a warrant out for him. That is if the Lowell Sun got the story straight, they seem to get it wrong many times.

It appears that readers want an investigation of the Wilmington police by an independent investigative body to determine why they withheld timley information on this crash from the news media and whether acceptable standards were followed in givng chace to this punk.Remember, young and inexperienced cops in a small town like Wilmington really get their adrenlem and testosterone going when they hit the siren and accelerator in the police cars with the big V8 engines.

And once again it is the fault of the police. Don't worry about the individual who made a choice to run. No personal responsibility anymore. If you ever wonder why this country is going downhill just read the above. Beyond that my condolences to the family and friends of Mr Joyce.

a attempt to stop a car and pursuit are totally different. For all we know the Officer signaled the car to stop and the kid just floored it. I am not going to be so quick to pass judgement on the Police just yet. The road is very curvy.A car could be out of sight in seconds on this road.

May God Bless the family of Bill, and may god bless all you people making these statements. No One knows what happened and no one ever will. The road is curvy and there have been numerous accidents on that area of Aldrich Rd. The Police were trying to apprehend the driver, they were just trying to do there job. I take it the writer of the above has a record..

I didn't read anywhere on here that the 18 year old is responsible, but maybe the cops could made the situation avoidable too. Why shouldn't things be investigated. I will never just blindly believe cops don't make mistakes ot cover up mistakes. To be honest the Lowell Sun gets so many stories wrong and I personally have seen them report half truths a few times. So I have no doubt there is more to this story. They might not have been chasing him, but if they were, an ivestigation should go forth and these cops should be trained when a chase is warranted or not.

That I think is the right thing about America, we are allowed to question!!!

Not much to investigate......were the police driving the guys car? Here's my investigation......cop signals guy to pull over, guy doesn't (as the law requires), guy gets in an accident and someone dies, guy is 100% responsible. Investigation over.
