Moving next year... interested in places around UK that are affordable, but not terribly cheap. Not interested in living so close to campus that I have to deal with other students on a frequent basis. Not interested in living around a lot of poor people

Since: Feb 12

Try the Tates Creek area. Just avoid Centre Pkwy, Trent Blvd, and Appian Way.

If you are interested, I have a house that I own and lived there while going to graduate school at UK. Very quiet , nice neighbours, and about 5 to 10 minute drive from campus. Far enough away from the distractions but close enough that if you wanted to go out on the town you could make it there in a short amount of time. It is currently rented but they are going to be moving to another state so I haven't advertised yet but if you give me your email, I can send you picks. It is the tates creek area across from heartland. The south side of town is generally good. I would avoid the north end such as byran station, castlewood, and winburn neighborhood area.. Also ask about which electric company the utilities are with cause if it is Recc, then it is much more expensive. The area where our rental house is has Ku which is really the best in my opinion. Good luck . Hope this helps.

Streets with presidents names or numbers are things to avoid as a general rule of thumb in Lexington .

first of all, this white boy person is annoying by having nothing better to do than stay on topix all day.

second of all, the "possibilities" post was sarcasm, and stop screwing with people who dont know any better.

third: around tates creek is O.K. in some areas but in others can be quite rough. i recommend using google maps to see a picture of the address if not already provided.:) if you're looking for an apartment to rent, red mile has a few that are decent but do have 4-5 people in each. there's a common dining area, family-like room, and kitchen, but there are washers/dryers provided in each and you have your own bedroom and bathroom. however, the downside is that area parties all weekend. so if you're not much of a party person, AVOID all apartments within a 15 mile radius of campus.

springhouse apartments are pretty good. i believe rent is around $650 there (without utilites) a month. expect to pay around that for anything that's not in the ghetto.:)

I lived at Spring House 20 years ago. It's a very nice location.
The only thing I would do differently now is avoid the 1st floor, just for safety these days, if you're female.

Avoiding the first floor? Someone I know stays there and I havent seen any people loitering or making a fuss later at night. For her safety, what's wrong with the first floor? She lives further up, but we do have to pass the first floor. Haha
