Wow! You are really an educated individual--NOT! "Assuming" something is no good for any one. Did you ever stop to think that not everyone who goes there is a druggie? Perhaps some are, however I do not know because I do not make a habit of judging people just because they visit a pain management clnic. This clinic does numerous things besides prescribe meds. They have physical therapy and they do serveral different medical procedures. Also, not all the patients are prescribed narcotics. So, you can stick your judgmental opinion where the sun does not shine!

@Well--perhaps she just had a bad day today? I don't know. It was my first visit with her and she was not nice at all. She was actually what I would call hateful and controling. We do all have bad days, I just would think that a professional would have a better mannerism than what she displayed.

I am looking for a pain management Dr and heard that they were real nice at the Pasadena clinic.
Im just curious about a few things and wondering if someone who goes there as a patient or who works there could help me with a few questions I have. I have never been to a pain clinic before and I live pretty far away from Lexington and I dont drive, so I have to pay someone quiet a bit of money to give me transportation to get there, so I need to know a few things first before deciding which clinic to go to.

1. Ok, I know they drug test all the time and that is not a problem at all. Im just curious if you have to pay someone to take you to an appt and they dont drug test on that day, do they call you back in days later to do drug test or do they do it on the day of your appts when you come in?
Because that would require me to have to pay someone twice to take me to the appt, for which I can barely afford to pay someone to take me once a month. I am on a fixed income and barely can afford food right now.
2. When they call you in for your medication count, do they do it at every appt you have or do they just call you at random and say you need to come in or what? Because literally after the first of the month I have a little bit of money for the first six or seven days and then I am completely broke till my next check, which is on the first. I stay home basically everyday.
I buy all my groceries and pay all my bills on the first and then I am completely broke for the rest of the month. I dont have family that I can just borrow from. I have two cousins that live in Texas and I hardly ever talk to them. I dont have anyone I could call that I can count on to borrow money for gas, if that makes sense.
So I am just curious how they work that kind of thing because I dont want them to call me several times a month to come in, when I would not have the gas money to get there or the money to pay the lady to bring me.
I dont mind drug test because I am drug free and I dont mind med count because my meds stay locked up at all times. Just curious how they work it there.
Thanks in advance for your information. It would be greatly appreciated.

To answer your questions, yes, you do have drug tests at each visit. However, you do not go every month, you only go every 2 months. That should help you some with your gas/traveling expenses. You do sign a contractwith them stating that you are subject to random drug tests/med counts, but generally it is at your 2 month appointments. They also do blood work every 4 months to check liver functioning, ect., but this too is done at one of your scheduled visits. They also may order you to have procedures such as epidurals or trigger point injections and/or physical therapy but you can do the PT closer to home, IF your doctor orders it. DO expect to be there for quiet a while as they are very busy and crowded! But being that you only go every 2 months does help. Just hope you do NOT get the arrogant nurse practitioner-she has no bedside manner and is some what obnoxious! Other than her, everyone there is pleasant. Good luck and may God Bless you with your health issues aand Chronic Pain.

Thank you Beth for your reply! You were very helpful to me and answered all my questions. I do believe I will try out this place now. I hate that you had a bad experience there with a nurse. Its sad that when you deal in chronic pain its hard to have to put up with arrogant burn out people. I have a very short temper when it comes to things like that, maybe its because of my pain level keeps me o the edge. I have been known to tell people off even when I see them being smart-ass' to someone else. I hope I do not have to do that but so be it if I have to. I hope that you get better and who knows we may even run into each other someday. I appreciate your reply and I hope you all the best! People like that generally get figured out pretty soon, so she probably wont last long if she is like that. Best of luck always..........

@Helen, I don't think she has been there real long. My sister did her rotations there maybe 5 years ago and she wasn't there then, so maybe you are thinking of a different one than I am? I did put in a request to not be treated by her again. Sometimes personalities just clash. So, either she really is controlling and rude, or we just clashed. Regardless, she IS suppose to be a professional and should be able to behave as such! I have also filed a complaint with the NP Board!

@ Curious, thank you for your kind words. I wish you all the luck there and with your health. Chronic pain is no picnic and medical professionals treating patients with this condition need to be compassionate and understanding.

Well, they do have more than 1 nurse practitioner there, so I'm talking about the one who makes changes and/or decisions w/o the doxtors knowledge! And the one who gets all red when a patient knows factual information. About their healthcare, that seems to boil her blood! Think her first name is Becky? She is not nice!! Ewwwwwwwww.....she is hateful and controlling to the max! Hope to never have her treat me againab

You need to write this up and deliver their copy to dr or whoever in charge.Telling them will get u nowhere they pull ur chart on ur visit and will remind each other everytime of your complaint.Worked for them i know.Noone not there to score drugs deserves to have to deal with that treatment. You have enough to contend with or else u wouldnt be there in the first place period.Attitudes toward pts is very important. If its bad they hurt the buisness as well as a whole.Follow up on your complaint in writing.Documentation........H er attitude could lead to other behavioral issues.Nursing board should know also.Internet can help you there.

Not that I need to explain myself to you "knowing", but I do have a full time job. I do have a college degree and make a decent income with good insurance. Just because someone is described as rude does not make them jobless. What an ignorant assumption on your behalf! Not everyone who takes meds for chronic pain is jobless or trying to be bad. Perhaps you need an education and/or a job. Good luck with that, as you obviously lack "people skills". From the sounds of your attitude perhaps you are her or someone close to her.

Yea I bet you have money to burn,I work in the medical field and I see your kind every day.Any thing to get a pill.Anything!

Nope, unfortunately I do not have money to burn. Just enough to pay the house, vehicles, college, kids, ect. What I do have though is an incurable bone disease that at best is excruciating, but I still work and I'm still there for my husband and girls. Odd, I also am a nurse, and I can honestly say that I do not look at, nor treat all of my patients as someone just trying to get a "pill". Granted a few do attempt this, but the majority do not. Sounds like you have burn out if you are looking at and treating the patients you work with like this! When people are sick and/or having surgery, they are scared and feel bad, many are in pain and terrified, they don't need asses like you around them! Hopefully you just clean the toilets in the medical field and are not in actual contact with sick & hurting patients! From your limited and poor mannerisims, that would be my guess!

It's a good thing that people do need pain management otherwise this place would quickly be out of business. They treat people terrible there. Their attitude is you have to have your pain medicine, so we'll treat you anyway we like. It doesn't work like that, people deserve to be treated with respect, & kindness. If those in the healthcare industry can't treat people right, then they need to get out of the business.
