Weight loss surgery and Dr. Robert Greenlee

My mother had weight loss surgery Dec 19, 2006. Dr Greenlee done something to her spleen he says bumped. Whatever. It kept bleeding. It took him 3 months to discover that it was the spleen bleeding then it took him 3 more months to remove it. We begged for him to remove it when he first discovered where it was bleeding from. At the 3 month mark the also discovered she had 4 different infections. We asked for the spleen to be removed and the infectin cleaned out, but NO mr. Greenlee's way was better so we treated with medicine. 3 months later he removed the spleen and the infection like we had asked 3 months earlier. By this point my mother was so weak she could hardly stand unassisted. She lived another 5.5 months dying just 2 weeksbefore her one year of surgery. She never got well. Mr. Greenlee wanted to paly God and hero and take care of things himself. He did cll in an ifectious disease dr but refused to call in any other specialists to help her. He let her die!! Please don't have weight loss surgery, don't let Dr. Robert Greenlee look at you at all, and don't go to St Joe East hospital. they are passing out MRSA among other infections. I am beggin you if you or anyoen you know are considering thsi surgery please think twice. the day after my precious mom passed away a friend of mine passed away 4 yrs after having the same surgery. Both ended up on IV nutrtion. Thsi surgery is not safe and the surgeons dont cae. My mother died with a huge gapping hole in her stomach that the dr couldn't gt to heal. Did he call in a wound specialist NO WAY that may have taken some of the glory of him. Thanks so muh Dr Robert Greenlee AKA my mother's murderer. I am alone now. She was my best friend, someone I could talk to. I ahve a wonderful husband 6 beautiful children and a great extended family. none of which can take place of or even come close to the bond mom and I had. I will NEVER get over the loss of her and I will tell everyone I can about how YOU killed my mother.

My Uncle was killed by the same Dr. at St Joe East in February of this year. He had gastric bypass surgery done and died the next day. The State Medical examiner determined that his passing was the Doctors fault. They had made some sort of incision in his bowl and forgot/didn't know and left it open. My uncle was basically poisioned to death by his own body. After my uncle had gotten a fever that evening, he called the doctors office over and over again and they just kept telling him to take more pain medicine.

Since my Uncle passed, several people have come to me telling me that they also know people who have passed away after having the same surgery @ St. Joe East. Please advise your loved ones to avoid St. Joe East at all cost! There are other very respected bariatric centers in KY.

I am so sorry to hear of your uncle. I thin it is a terrible hospital as wll as Greenlee is a horrific dr. I posted this so others would be made aware and hopefully more cautious. the butcher needs ot eb made known.

so glad to hear your surgery went well. Iwth the loss I suffered I am never even gonna think about the surgery but thanks for the recommendation for others. Hope things continue to always go well for you. :)

I'm this ladys mother. The one who had surgery by Dr.Greenlee.I can't possibly express how I feel about this doctor. I never saw any doctor be so casual about his post surgery problems with a patient. I asked the husband to bring her here to get better medical care somehow they felt she would eventually get care there. Well they were wrong so very wrong. The famoly had no way of knowing who this man really was. Doctors should be made to post their record of success & failures so the public has a better way to make an informed decision.After all this is life & death descisons people are making with out nearly enough information about the person who is going to cut them up!!! This family has lost the pearl of great price. Her life was snuffed out by gread The more surgerys the more money. I'm like her daughter never will be over this. I mourn for her every day. I can't express what my heart feels. But there is still so much pain. Finally there should be someone to stop the maddness of this surgery. It is no way to control weight!!!

I'm so sorry for your loss I also lost my mother 3 years ago after treatment from dr. dinesh shah of Mayfield Ky. He has since had his licence revoked by the state of Ky, but not until he had damaged many more patients & their families. We stayed with her round the clock for 8 months after he tried to kill her & it was so heartbreaking. I don't think we will ever recover from losing her like that. I'm not from your area but think it's very important that in spite of your grief you are warning others. May God Bless You, time does heal the heart some, but I think about & grieve for my mom every day.

my mother was taken by uk hosp. she had breast cancer and they said that they got it all and that they did not need to do radiation. Then they went in when she had a awful cough and did reconstruction surgery, and 6 months later she died from cancer that had spread everywhere.

thanks all for the support. i am sorry to hear of everyone's loses. I pray that as been there from Ohio said (in case u didn'tnotice that is my grandmother) a public record is made better available and accessible to all so that someone who is looking at havig surgery can review the record. I don't want a record the dr put out I think there needs to be a separate organization that keeps track of any and all surgeries and all complications arising from the surgery. We the public need and have a right ot be informed.

Praying for all who read this and hope that those dealing with horrific lose can find some comfort in God.

My uncle was also taken by a surgeon operating out of St Joes East. I'm not sure who his surgeon was, but he did have gastric bypass surgery three years ago. The surgeon didn't completely close something while inside, his gastric acid leaked into his abdomen and caused a blood infection. He lived a week after his surgery then died. Stay away from Saint Joes East!

They also gave a very good friend's grandmother the same blood infection after a completely different surgery. I know that staph infection's are a common risk of surgery, but blood infections (septicemia) is not! St Joes East is just a killing institution!

I know 2 surgeons at St Joe East that do gastric bypass are Greenlee and Neighbert. I thoguth Neighbert at least seemed to be mildly concerned and had an ok bedside manner, but still yet he is operating out of St Joe East and that place is rampant with disease and infection running every where.

Hey I had gastric bypass two years ago and yes I lost 200 pounds but I have been nothing but sick since I've had to have heart surgery I have seizures now its just not worth it I'm still a bbw and I love it I wouldn't recommend anyone to have it done

really I only met him twice but when greenlee removed mymother's pain pump becasue he didn't want her getting addicted to pain med (she hd a 4 inch wide gapping open wound on her stomach that he had left from surgery so it would heal better) at least neighbert t least listen to her pleading and ordered the nurse hook it back up. that was about the only dealings I had with him other than that he just alked in made sure she was bleedingand none of her wounds were actively bleeding and left. That was it but he was at lest concerned that she not hurt real bad

I am having this surgery on Dec 30th at St. Joe East by Dr. Steiner. Dr. Greenlee is no longer there. They only have the two Steiner and Nieghbery (sp). I am still going through with the surgery, I have put my faith in the Lord.

Dr. Greenlee no longer there? He was there on December 17th for my wifes 3 month follow-up. I would really like to know how true this is if anyone has more info. We also are not pleased at all with his manners or the way he handles patients. Just wish this thread had been seen and started before surgery. Have had several complications, but will be looking at getting a second opinion from another Bariatric center in the area, just to see if what has been done is ok, or if we need to re-do some things.
