Does anyone have any knowledge of any caves in or around Lexington Kentucky? I know of Red Mile cave off red mile rd. That one is obvious. But I know based on word of mouth of an extensive cave system that crawls all over the county.

Yes, there are a number of entrances to the system, but most are kept quiet so as to deter lookie-loos (i.e., if it were too public, the entrances would be closed due to safety reasons). The system has been known about for well over 100 years and has a really weird history. Some of the more interesting and bizarre tales of underground lexington involve ancient civilizations, alien bases, cia mind control tunnels, skeletons of 12 ft tall giant redheads, and more. Generally you won't find the entrances on a map or anywhere in print -- you have to know people who know about them already. It's one of Lexington's best open secret.

I'm totally in, I have long climbing ropes that can be used for back tracking and 3 very high powered small flashlights that cost me over 75 dollars each. My best friend and I that will go are 28 years old male and we are not beginners and would be a great asset to the expedition. I also have a harness, rope, repelling, and Left/Right Handled Ascenders if needed.
Mail sent here will forward to my main account:

I think there's one under Vine St. & the Eastern State property has one, it's where they used to get their water until an epidemic.

There are several gated entrances into the system directly below Transylvania University via the basement of several of the buildings. In the winter time, during a snow, you can see areas criss-crossing the campus where the snow has melted due to the heat from those tunnels.

Those tunnels connect up into a larger system that run along Vine street -- where it begins to get deeper. It also connects to the quarry system near Red Mile Rd.

Many of these systems spider outward throughout Lexington, but ultimately they all are a means to get to the larger system on Vine.

Almost every cave in Fayette Co has been surveyed and mapped but the data is not made public for many reasons. I promise you there is NO underground network of connecting caves in Fayette Co. Although this group will not give out cave info they do have access to it for scientific use. This is one of the best resources in KY for karst and cave fun and these folks can take you on many fun and safe adventures.

I do not go spelunking (no thanks) I do know where there is a large'sunken' area and often wondered if this might not be a cave entrance--contact me if you want more details. [email protected]

If you want to go spelunking, make sure to let a caver know where you're going, because cavers are the ones who rescue spelunkers...

The Overbrook farm on Delong road has a cave. It is at the far end of the creek. Where the two farms meet, was called the Combs farm.On left side of the creek on the hill. But before you go onto a WT Young farm, ask first. Or you could be in jail.

Tates Creek Rd inbound side, approaching Dove Run, the hill which is the front of the Merrick property, between the white four rail fence and the sidewalk you see some limestone coming out of the hillside. if you look you'll see a limestone rock, not big, standing against the rocks sticking out of the hill. move that rock and there is a smallish hole. it's not too small to wiggle into. theres your entrance into a limestone cave system.

I heard from many different sources that Picadome was built over a cave and that an entrance is located behind the fire station on Harrodsburg Road. Some people have claimed to see it, but that the entrance has been blocked for quite some time. I believe that the creek running parallel to Springhill Drive runs into the cave.
I believe that this is definitely a topic that should be researched.
