From an Oak Creek post:
"the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the LDS or Mormon Church), which regularly trumpets its charitable donations, gave about $1 billion to charitable causes between 1985 and 2008. That may seem like a lot until you divide it by the twenty-three-year time span and realize this church is donating only about 0.7 percent of its annual income.
"Wal-Mart, for instance, gives about $1.75 billion in food aid to charities each year, or twenty-eight times all of the money allotted for charity by the United Methodist Church and almost double what the LDS Church has given in the last twenty-five years.
"One calculation of the resources expended by 271 U.S. congregations found that, on average,“operating expenses” totaled 71 percent of all the expenditures of religions, much of that going to pay ministers’ salaries."
And BTW - nobody knows exactly how much money Pat Robertson has - just that it's between $200 million and $1.2 billion...
How much do you give?

So for his edification ... Yes we can date rock in several ways... We cannot date (But we are getting close) date when the rock was cut and used as a building material but we can date when it was formed, how it was formed, the pressures it was formed under and what it was formed from...

Carbon Dating only dates back about 50,000 years but there are Dozens of other methods that can date back billions of years... Heres a partial short list ..

Um... I think its more of a logistics question than a date... Without the heavy movers of today we couldn't built a lot of these sites ourselves... Still it's funny to hear some of the speculation you guys come up with... And if anything dating the rocks only makes it look worse for the Ape Theory... At a time when evolutionist say men were hiding in caves and trying to built a fire we find complex cities and stone craftsmanship that would rival any work done by a diamond saw today...

"And if anything dating the rocks only makes it look worse for the Ape Theory..."

No it doesn't... The latest finds only moves the date that man became technologically able... It says nothing of evolution..

But be very careful trying to incorporate technology advancement that happened during megalithic building time frame with your religious views... They are not in the least compatible and will cause you to question the magical narrative of the bible.. and you will burn in Hell for that... Unless it's winter time and then Hell is really cold, but the bar makes a good cup of hot chocolate...

<quoted text>Actually, from the Roman perspective I think it was a good system. They did not try to convert the Jews to pagan worship, or any of the other peoples they conquered. Instead, they would try to co-opt the religion's endorsement. For example, at the time of Jesus, the high priest Caiaphas was a Roman appointee.
I don't think it was persecution of early Christians that has led to religious intolerance, though - it is an attitude cultivated in more recent European history and fertilized by modern day tribalism.
Christianity is a religion based on the idea of persecution. I think it is inherent to the theology.

What I meant by the Romans having a terrible system was that the local authority could carry out justice pretty much however they wanted. Compared to other ancient systems it was probably pretty good, but by our standards still horrific IMHO.

Fascinating topic!

Wow we agree on something... Ripley wouldn't believe it.... It's strange how a man like yourself can call into question something like the global warming when almost every scientist in the world says it's true... Yet you defend a theory that is completely groundless...

I call into question Everything, Always.. And I never defend a theory that is completely groundless as if any were in fact groundless they would not be a theory in the first place... The very essence of the concept of scientific theory is that the are based on evidence that can be experimentally tested... There may well be many interpretations and conclusions of that evidence and test data but for a theory to survive even rudimentary examination it is grounded in evidence...

In your case your just a hypocrite and don't have any clue of what constitutes a theory, scientific proof or the scientific method because if you did you would apply the requirement of evidence and testable verification to your religious mental constructs.

I don't agree with many existing conclusions in several areas of the sciences, I think there is good evidence to a pre-historic civilization that thrived during what we called the last ice age that had advanced technological capabilities. I think there is reasonable evidence that a catastrophic event happened around 20,000 to 25,000 years ago that almost wiped human kind from the planet... I think lots of things that fly in the face of the assorted standard models in several fields of science... But that being the case I see absolutely no rational, logical reason to fall to myth and magic to explain that yet to be understood... Biblical Belief is Grounded in Magic and human ego... Now when Evidence is provided I'm always glad to consider and try my best to cut the evidence to shreds and see if it stands interrogation but since religion by requirement has no evidence it's not worthy of even consideration...

That's a good point. And some early Christians were persecuted because they refused to observe the public religious rites of the Empire. I can't remember the source but there was a text describing a "trial" of some Christians. The person in charge repeatedly asked the Christians to observe some religious notion or another or else face punishment. They refused, and were punished.
It was a terrible system. Romans didn't seem to give a crap about what you actually believed, just whether or not you did your religious duties. I think that's a hallmark of ancient religions. We obsess about beliefs and convictions but they were more concerned with fulfilling certain duties, which they thought would satisfy the gods.
Since Christians would not play ball on this matter it upset non-Christians and since local leaders were pretty much free to dole out justice however they liked it led to the persecution of a few thousand people.
Unfortunately that persecution, which was terrible, has led to some modern Christians here in the States feeling "persecuted" when Target hangs a Happy Holidays sign up. Sheesh.
Lets be honest, early christians where PROSECUTED for crimes like MURDER.
(but since god told them to kill it is persecution?)
simple.

Where did you hear that rubbish?

Civ is about 12,000 years old, or older. Homo sapiens has existed about 200,000 years.

Also, if one civ is advanced another might be less so. Take Cortez and the natives he encountered. Or Ceasar and the Britons.

Complex reality.

I don't have a problem with ToE... My problem is with the religion of it... I don't believe the evidence shows that life could have just sprung up... Much less survived... Far to many questions.. And not just little questions... Life requirers other life to survive... The Bee needs the flower as also the flower needs the bee... So not only does ToE state life evolved from simple single cells it also states that they split into different life forms for mutual benefit... Yet nowhere ever has mutation or selection been shown to change a cell into a completely different one... Never... These are really big problems for the theory... But this fact is swept under the rug as nothing... Well not me... And many others are starting to jump ship as well... Life is far to complex to ignore...
Again, you make claim evolution is about how life came to earth. It does not. Please stop the lies. You whine about evolution making false claims, yet it is you who keeps making false claims.
Most of evolution's claims are about life using life to change. So I would think that would make you happy. But you just manufacture controversy to make a gap for your god to squeeze into.

Show evidence of your claims or shut up.
No one is claiming it was not a fish, but it was more than 'just' a fish. It was a fish that was evolving traits that were also like what is needed for land.
You have yet to show any evidence for any of your claims. I am guessing you read the claims from some creationist site.
