Traffic violation court costs

I got a ticket for a minor traffic violation today, first one in a decade. The violation is $20, but the court cost is $143! So $163 total. The young officer told me you don't have to pay the court cost if you don't contest it, but the paperwork says otherwise, so I called the clerk's office and they said it is the full $163 unless you go to court and the judge says otherwise.

My question is: for those that have contested your ticket in court, have you had success in getting it overturned, or reduced? Do they reduce any of the court costs or just the cost of the violation?

Well how you think they are going to get that big salary and live like kings and queens. Court cost are a big joke. They could care less if they take all of your money and don't ever listen too a police officer they just tell you a lie too. Its just one big happy family.

I got a ticket once and thought that going before the judge would help but it didn't. I didn't even get to say anything to defend myself so I found out the hard way to not even try it. Even if you didn't do the crime they will still make you pay and believe the cops no matter what. Just pay the ticket and take the classes and go on.

Thats right folks the justice system business at work again , those judges have to be paid their high salarys so they can release the dope heads and bums back into the streets to harrass us working people , I've never saw a worse more poor excuses for a justice system than Lexington courts and judges , federal investigations need to happen here to keep law and order here it's terrible how the mis use of positions and power that goes on here , they will release the drug addicts and they pay nothing but you go over the speed limit 10 miles an hour and got slammed for 165.00 bucks , that should cover you and joe pill heads court cost , we need to vote these abusers out of office at election time

So what is the process? Do you even get to talk to the judge?

Years ago in another state we were basically in a line and spent 30 seconds with some court official. It wasn't even a conversation, it was like a drive-thru. But just by being there he pretty much reduced everyone's violation/fine.

I don't care about the points. They are gone in a year. My insurance won't go up with this one small violation.

Apparently it is just a joke.... I had a ticket for about $160 as well and when i went to court, the prosecutor tried to offer me a deal for something and i would have paid $190. So i asked for another court date. They think people are dumb.

If you get a ticket your a criminal. Your a thief or drug dealer your set free.isn't the justice system just wonderful. What gets me is the speed limit is 55 MPH on new circle road and if you don't run 80 you'll get ran over.or let someone off the ramp and then you got too race them too get back over. But getting back on the subject court cost are ridiculous. There should be a set fine too cover everything if it's payable by mail.I can see it of your going in for DUI OR RECKLESS DRIVING.

So you talked to a prosecuror and not a judge? That sounds like it was in the other state.

What was the resolution? Did you get another court date? What happened (what was the offense and circumstances, if you don't mind sharing)?
