Thanks for all of the information. I did have the procedure today and it did only cost about $800 after everything. Yes, I paid for it myself as I am gainfully employed in a career I enjoy and I simply don't have the time or desire to endure a pregnancy. A few people here talked about guilt. I can't say that I experienced any guilt. This was a medical procedure and though I felt a little anxious as this was the first time I've gone through this, I trusted those around me. Was I thrilled about it? Nope. Do I feel guilt about it? Nope. It's like getting wisdom teeth removed; it's not fun and I'd prefer to not do it, but can be a necessity.

I'm amazed at some people in here worrying themselves about deadbeats, forced sterilizations, tax dollars, whether or not the father should pay, and such. These people appear they just want to troll and create strife for others. I asked on Topix because I am new to this town and I wasn't sure if this procedure was available in Lexington or if I had to travel elsewhere. For personal reasons, I actually did choose to travel elsewhere.

I admit the procedure was a little more involved and painful that I imagined, so I'll be taking off work for a few days.

Thanks for those people who provided good information and were supportive of my question.
As a former "crisis pregnancy counselor," I urge you to take the time you need to heal. You sound intelligent, with a hopeful future, and I do wish you the best :)
However, although you say you are not feeling 'guilty,' it is common for many women to feel a sense of numbness after the procedure. Be aware of changes both physically, but more importantly, emotionally. Your body has undergone a 'shocking' operation; please research the longterm effects of an abortion, and seek help IF you feel depressed, angry, have mood swings, or trauma-based emotions (as well as any physical issues). Remember that your hormones might be a bit off-kilter for a while, as your body is readjusting.
I am a Christian woman, and am pro-life; but I AGREE in sincerity that some of these posts are cruel and unnecessary. I am so very sorry for such heinous posts :( We don't know your circumstances, and I wish you a healthy, emotional and physical, recovery. Not all Christians are judgmental :) Glad to hear you are safe, and I will be praying for your safe healing :)

While I can agree with much of your post here I have to say as a woman that has had an abortion that I never felt depressed, angry, or have any mood swings due to my decision....soley because I was sure I made the right decision for myself. I do agree that hormones can be out of control due to the sudden change though.

I have to say that I do appreciate the fact that you are trying to be supportive and not judgemental since you are a Christian and Pro-life....I just wanted to compliment you on that.

No you'll be damned for judging her! God is the only one able to judge and he will do that when she dies and stands before him! It's not your job to do it hear on earth! Your just suppose to love everyone and lead them to Jesus!

I was forced to have one when I was younger because I was underage and had been raped.. my parents had me convinced that I didn't have a choice that it was up to them cause I was under 18... For along time I hated them for that but now I'm 32 and have two beautifully perfect children that I'm thankful for everyday. I didn't know it then but I was way too young to take on the responsibility of a baby... Much less a baby that came from such a horrible experience... You have to do what feels right to you and if you feel at this time you wouldn't be able to raise a child then don't let anyone guilt you into not doing what's best for you!

I'm not judging her. I don't care what she does. I was pointing out her interesting word choice.

<quoted text>Abortion is murder in the eyes of God and you will pay the price for doing so count on it. You will face God for murdering that child, how can you do such a thing. You will go on in life knowing you murder a child, if you didn't want to have a child you should kept your pants on! Sin is sin..........
Stone throwing heathen, sin IS sin, and YOU are sinning by judging.

Sit down and shut your judgmental mouth. You probably have never had the joy of someone WANTING you sexually, so of course you'll point your haughty fingers. Why don't you put them in your pants and pleasure yourself..maybe you'll understand...

. So you spread your legs but you are not women enough to take responsiability for your actions so you think its better to commit murder, and yes the Word says life begins at conception. So do the world a favor if you can't find in your heart to do the right thing and carry that baby to full term then adopt it out to someone that would love to have a child but can't. Then sew that twat up and keep your legs closed
