scam alert green dot debit cards

I bought a green dot pay as you go debit card from Rite Aid. Put 200 on it in march. In April I reloaded 200 more. Card declined . Called customer service in some overseas office. No money on card. Sam told me there was a glitch in the computor that erased the reloads. Sorry about you luck. No refunds buddy.
Has any one else been troubled by missing money on your cards???

I had the same problem. Report them to the better business bureau. too. Don't let them get away with that crap because they will certainly try. This is the email address I used to set them straight

yep i loaded 250 last night and it sisnt register on my card as well!!!the stupid greendot office is closed right now till later on a sunday,but iam soo concerned about the authenticy of this company now!did u know they are with the walmart visa cards??and a series of other prepaid cards..just go to any walmart and look at the walmart prepaid cards logo at the bottom!they are scamn everyone now!

I had a similar problem and was able to convince the manager of a Walgreens to remove the products from his store shelves. He said he had numerous complaints about this company and would no longer carry the product.

Always keep your receipt! They have to put it on there if you have the proof! This is good to know!

I was highly troubled by "missing money." I called 1-877-473-3680... it's some guy named "Alex" who works for Green Dot. All you have to do is cry "lawyer" and they seem to give you all the information you want. Anyway, I called him and all of a sudden "POOF!" the money suddenly appeared. Hmmmm...

I think sometimes people write down the numbers off of the shelf; if you can memorize or write down the numbers it may become someone elses number. This happened with another company with phone minutes.

Just what i was looking for, Fellow Suckers like me.
(No offence) Anyway, I purchased a greendot Credit card from Rire Aid on the 5th of June. 2 weeks later i get a letter saying they need address verification. I send i them a photo copy of my drivers permit.about 2 weeks later i call to check on things and they say "A letter was sent out on the 26th" I ask them, "is my card in it" No. They say they need further address verification. Well... you sent me mail to this address and i responded from this address????

They say send a utility bill (i have none,Its in the rent) and we will send it out within 10 days.

Im thinking this is gonna be anouther month wait. So i tell em to stick it and just give me a refund. 20 minutes on the phone and finally they come back and say im all set and i will get a check in 30 days!!! I was like..OMG are you serious!!!!

So then i ask them. Where are you sending the check. They read me back my address. I ask, How come you are going to send a check out to the address on file but you couldnt send the damn card??? They have no responce to this.I start surfing the net since im really pissed off and wanna get even with these idiots. I come here, call the number kirby provided and get a hold of a guy who takes my info and assures me that a check will be sent out fedex and ill get it in 3 buisness days.

Green Dot's customer service is the absolute worst. Not only is it located in some third-world dung heap of a country, most likely India, they do everything they can to mislead you and essentially steal your money. Wal-Mart has now joined this rip-off company and I'm sure many more complaints are to come.

Well I've had the card for a few months. I haven't experienced any problems yet. The money is always immediately on my card when I deposit it. I do not like the customer service, the fact that it does not sound like it's here in the states troubles me. Before you get one be sure to read all about it and the different charges (there are charges for all sorts of things, even calling customer service and to load money onto the card..unless you direct deposit. You have to deposit a certain amount each month or you get a $5 charge) But other than that it's worked great for me, just like a debit/credit card..without the bank.

Oh and I bought mine from Walmart. I had no problems getting it activated. I had it activated by the time I left Walmarts parking lot and was able to use it right away. I'm not recommending nor not recommending this product. Everything works different for everyone. Do your research and watch where you buy them from I guess.

I had something similar, the Rushcard Visa. I had my pay check direct deposited into it. The main problem I had was that sometimes you would go to the ATM and at the end of the transaction you would not get the money. It happened all the time and it would take a couple of weeks until the bank counted out their ATM and told Rushcard and then the money would be put back on your card. But it was a pain in the ass.

Ok so I'm at walmart to buy a visa debit prepaid card, I pay the 8.94 for the card and load 40$ that I needed to pay for something online, I only wanted the card so I transfer money to it and spend money at stores/online from paypal. Well I started to activate it online, something online (something to do with my network) I didn't feel like fixing it so I just decided to call. I get this _____ <-- Fill in colorful adjective to describe a person of stupidity. Anyways she barely speaks english and she asked for all my information, I told her on the phone and she told me that she was going to direct me to the automated system, RIGHT BEFORE I COULD ASK MY QUESTION. So I get to the automated system and I'm like opps I need to ask her a question. I call back, it says I need to pay 2.00 TO TALK TO SOMEONE. IM LIKE BS. By that point, it was acctivated, so I added the card to the paypal, it says it has to take 1.95 to hold to verify, I'm like ok that's fine. It sends me an email stating to wait 2-3 days for the 4 digit code to recieve the money back. I started to think as to how I was suppose to recieve these digits, so I went on to the walmartprepaid.com to sign in when I realize I HAVE NO PASSWORD. OH HEY theres "Create Online password" ! YAY ! I type everything in and it says not verified try again in 24 hours..... YEAH I DONT THINK SO. I call any number I could find just to see what the password is so I can get the number. They all wanted to charge me, I'm like GREAT. So it's 2 in the morning and I'm pissed off, time for bed. Around 5 am I get a text message on my phone saying that by 7/22 my balance is 35.05.... I'm like WTF WHERE DID IT GO ? Oh the monthly charge, so they charge me a day after I get and then on 8/1 they are going to charge me another 4.95. HA, yeah no. So I'm out 50 bucks, pissed off, and one more thing to add to why this world is so corupt.

Walmart and all of the prepaid companies are a scam. I initially purchased a walmart prepaid card to make 2 payments to a creditor. I found out after purchase that the card carries a $4.95 monthly charge, whether you use it or not. In addition they will charge you an overdraft fee if they go to take the $4.95 charge and their are no funds. To make matters worse, I called to cancel the card and was informed by a recording that it would cost me $2.00 to speak with a customer service rep. I was truly a walmart fan, but they can kiss you no what?

I bought a green dot visa card at the begging of June...I put $80 plus the $9.95 one time activation fee....couldnt activate it online...supper mad called finally got to talk to a person-who mispelled everything, Couldnt activate the card....so they said "well send you af refund check for $89.95 should arrive in 7-10 days" ok I wait 2 weeks pass......nothing
I called customer service turns out you need a card to talk to someone...ummmm I dont have one...look for hours online to try and find a number to call finally did.....turns out they sent the check to the wrong address....so I said( in a very angry voice) send me my money or I will sue you for fraud.....I finally got my check....TODAY!!!!!
