"The conservative Family Foundation of Kentucky also opposes the bill, saying the use of Galbraith's name is "an opportunistic gimmick."

Sure it's opportunistic, but his family stands behind it. And they have to use an eye opener to get attention. It's just ridiculous that it wasn't made legal years ago. It's A better prescription than the pills that are wrote out everyday. Pills are killing people, who has died from marijuana?

I copied this from someone on a different forum with the same subject.

It is a personal freedom issue and this state with all of its issues could use the tax money. Marijuana will be at least legal on the medical level in just about every state within the next 10 years. So why would a state that already produces more marijuana then any other state besides california stay behind the curve? It is time for Kentucky to be progressive. Most marijuana users only use occasionally. Something else you might know is that in states where medical marijuana has been implemented alcohol sales have gone down 15% and traffic related deaths are down 9%. Also in 8 of the 10 states where medical marijuana has been legalized teen use of marijuana has dropped. Please people don't be ignorant. Get informed.

The Family Foundation says that it would be prescribed for Jet Lag or Stress and I would ask them what is being prescribed now? Why is cannabis so much worse? If my doctor says it's the best thing for me then who are they to say different?

You should be informed that burning and in haling any type of carbon based material can be harmful, if you want to avoid that you may as well not go stand by a busy street, or by a campfire or grill or cigarette smoker. Though you can vaporize it and cook with it and eat, which is pretty healthy and has plenty of antioxidants, omega fatty acids, and other nutrients and minerals, I take hemp seed protein powder and lift weights every day live on a healthy and strict diet. There is plenty of research that is very easy to access that you can educate yourself on. Why deny the health and well being to those who really need it. If someone going through cancer or aids are at their bodies most vulnerable time and have a lowered immune system and are able to ingest cannabis with little to no negative side effects and make them better than i think through common sense that it would be harmless for perfectly healthy people. Some people will abuse it. Some will use it responsibly just like everything else. People abuse alcohol which has tremendous consequences not just for the user but that persons family, if they choose to drive or make bad choices.

Recently studies are showing that cannabis and the body's endocannabinoid system has a lot to positive effects on the bodies immune system and nervous system. There are plenty of studies that can be researched and PDF downloads on studies that suggest that cannabis is good for people suffering from diseases and complications such as: AIDS/HIV, Anti-Aging, Alzheimer's, Autoimmune diseases, Anxiety, Brain Trauma, CANCER, Crohn's, Diabetes, Digestive Disorders, Depression, GERD, Glaucoma, High Blood Pressure, Muscle Wasting, MRSA, Multiple Sclerosis, PTSD, Tourette's Syndrome just to name a few. A lot of times when people have cancer or aids they need something that helps them eat, sleep, and have a better outlook on life. Something that a lot of pharmaceuticals cannot do with out costing tons of money or causing really bad side effects. The only side effects of marijuana is cravings for food, and sleepiness depending on the strain and overall happiness. This harmless weed has been vilified by the tobacco industry, lumber and paper industry, oil companies, and big pharmaceutical companies lobbying efforts. Its our duty to elect officials that are not blinded by propaganda and are able to see through the smoke and mirrors and lies.

Because "Red" any idiot that studied civics in school knows that Kentucky is not a referendum state. It has to go through the legislature.
