student,
Again, the question is why would somebody do this as a paper for a class? College class would be bad enough, but why would someone write about this in High School?
Why was this chosen in the first place?
when your in college u have to write papers on alot of different thibngs if shes goin to school for criminal justice she will see things like the barnes case ans well as hear about it she wasnt trying to start trouble bascially trying to let people know of that good christan family ! why do you ppl take offense when someones not trying to offend anybody

The two guys were in Fed. Ct and they jumped from their holding cell window and went to Sayre school and hijacked a woman in her car. They let her go but took her car and went to the Rev. Barnes' house on Russell Cave Road and Hell broke loose. I know all about this case - I've researched it.

Thank you. That is exactly the case with my research and my paper. It was never my intention to cause anyone any pain or to relive bad memories. I look at this the same way that I view war. The veterans are the best source of information because they lived it. That's what I was looking for here, people who were around at that time with actual firsthand accounts. It's all history and sometimes history isn't pleasant. Thanks again to all of you who responded and helped me out. I really appreciate it.

Her brother Johnny was my best friend and I was the last person to speak with him. We spoke on the phone and the phone suddenly went dead. I was called into court as a witness at age 14 and had to face the murderer as well as view evidence. I have never recovered and am still in treatment for PTSD. Johnny was a wonderful person, and much of the work I do I dedicate to him. I have nightmares on a regular basis as there was no way I had of dealing with this back then. Everyone told me I just needed to put it behind me. Impossible to do.
I am so sorry you were subjected to all of this at such a young age, and that it has had such lasting effects. Prayers sent your way...

Maybe the murderers confessed to all the details. And, even if they didn't it is probably the way the found the bodies and the forensic data that pointed to this.

I remember when this horrible crime happened in Lexington. I was a student at UK, working on my degree in SW/Law Enforcement Studies. I voiced my opinion in class one day after the two had been captured in NKY that the death penalty should be brought back for these two animals and if no one else wanted to flip the switch I would. I knew police officers that were called to the scene and most of them said that this was the worst thing they had ever seen. Many of them got physically sick when they saw the bloody scene. The professor of my class wanted me expelled from the College of Social Professions, but the Dean refused to do so.
The "facts" as I remember them..
There were 3 escapees, 1 did get injured in the escape from the Federal Holdover.
The did kidnap a woman waiting for her children at the Sayre School.(I was thinking that her children weren't with her)
Mrs. Barnes was at a conference in Louisville. Was told that she had tried several times to call the house and when she didn't get an answer she called someone in Lexington to check on her family.
There were officers who had served in war zones that said this was the worst thing they had seen.
The 2 escapees did steal the Barnes' car and went to Falmouth, KY, where they continued on their rampage.
Captured on or near one of the bridges from NKY into Cincy.
One of the convicts did die from severe burns. Not sure what happened to the other one.
Well you certainly are interested in LEO.

One of the killers was burned up in his cell. The other one, William Slone, is still alive and at Eddyville so far as I know. The Reverend Barnes was Clergy, and not law enforcement.

i attended elementary school with ewalts son his sister went to sayre. he was home before the killers arrived with his mom and sister. they tied them up and rummaged for money. they talked of abusing the women but a neighbor and classmate knocked on the door for the son to come and play, that spooked the killers and they fled.

i went to elementary school with the son of ms. ewalt. he went to public school, his older sister went to sayre. we were in 5th grade. he was already home when the killers came home with the mom and sister. they were tied up with phone cord while the killers rummaged for valuables. they talked of abusing the women... but a knock on the door from the neighbor and schoolmate of the son startled the killers. they held the gun to the mother while she told the neighbor her son couldnt come out now she instructed him to go home.he didnt know why and didnt want to leave,he finally left. when the son came back to school he talked to a few of us about it and so did the other boy. we were all scared.

basically everything i read on 6 pages is the same shit repeated over. or the goofy "wish i didnt know all the facts i know" and never posted them. all bunch of bullshit. anybody who claims they still suffer nightmares is all full of shit. therapy + meds is what curing you right now, and most likely you're taking advantage of it.

if god was real/true ( seeing a post about gates of heaven ) would he allow these acts to be struck on a preacher + kids? no, ironic isnt it.

i wanna see pictures. or hear the audio tapes.

I have been considering writing a book detailing this horrific event. I grew up in that area and remember what an impact this case had on everyone in Lexington, not just those of us on the north end. Though I was only 3 when these murders happened, I lived very close to the area where they happened. Is there anyone still around who was witness to these events or would want to participate in interviews, etc.?

I am in the beginning stages of research for a book I would like to write on this case. Any information you would be willing to share would be very much appreciated.

Actually, I looked up in the old negro man in KOOL system and he was also convicted of rape. If you uncle murdered ppl, why do you think it would have any principles.

What p!sses me off is that we have been supporting and feeding this piece of trash for almost 40 years. OH well, hopefully he will die soon and will be violently raped and tortured for all eternity. Hope that is where your uncle is right now!
Also, glad he was torched and my taxpayer $ didn't have to support him.
Here is a prison report and photo of the old murderer as he is now. He should never be released from prison, in my opinion.
