do u have a permit to open carry in kentucky
Yes, but you have to apply for it in North Dakota. You also can only open carry if the weapon is holstered to your forehead, not back of the head, but forehead. Safety concerns.

You can carry open in the state of ky. Just don't have a ice cream cone in your pocket in Lexington, it's still against the law.

Why did you let them do that? They had no reason to believe you were breaking the law or that your gun might have been stolen. Did they also take your finger prints to make sure you are who you say your are? How about you dna? Did you let them scan the microchip in your dog just to make sure he hadn't been stolen?
Get some backbone, man.
the answer is simple why fight the police im all for my rights and what not but every time they pull some one over im sure they are always watching and afraid at some level dont fight it help the police dont be a dick about it

Under the circumstances you've described, I think you would be okay without a CDW. The gun must be readily visible, except it may be kept in the glovebox or other factory-installed storage compartment (a recent revision to Kentucky law). It makes no difference whether or not the firearm is loaded. I can't imagine an officer having an issue with the firearm unconcealed in a belt holster (assuming you didn't have a shirt or jacket covering it), though it's still subjective, but I would certainly recommend making the officer aware of the firearm should you ever get stopped. Take care!
I am law enforcement officer in Covington, KY and I carry a ccdw also. I have been stopped in my car and I just showed the officer my ccdw along with my DL and informed him I was armed. He responded, Thank you and just leave it in place. I believe that this was the proper thing todo.

what a moron !!! Go to kentucky state police website and all all carry laws are there . This 3 moves or 2 moves that's all redneck horse shit . That must be if you are pulled over down in the hollar !!!! If a cop pulls u over you for sure do not want it on the seat or on the dash or anywhere but in the factory glovebox on the dash locked or unlocked loaded or unloaded or concealed on u or concealed in the car if you have a ccdw lic.. It is the proper way to carry in the car if you do not have a ccdw lic to have in the factory glovebox on the dashboard not the middle one between seat or tray under the seat because then it becomes concealed weapon . You can carry it open on you but when you are in the car it goes to the glovebox unless u have the ccdw lic. So all you rednecks that say a cop told me 3 moves or 2 moves , no they did not say that !!!!!! Or leave it out in the open on the seat . If a cop walks up n you have a gun in the seat do you think he's looking to see if the mag is out or it's un loaded , no he just sees GUN !!!! N then probley pulls his !!!

There has never been a law like that in Ky. Plain sight or a factory installed compartment.

You CAN wear your weapon UNCOVERED on your hip in a holster while you drive your car.
It's not "concealed" just because it's not on display on the side I'm standing on. That's nonsense.
The whole thing about a gun being in the glovebox, center console, etc is just defining where a gun can be kept in the car if you are not wearing it.
Also, the "two step/motion" thing is a fallacy.
Be careful where you get your advice, as this board is full of idiots.
Again, just because it's not holstered on the side I'm standing on, DOES NOT MEAN IT IS "CONCEALED" BY LAW.
Thanks for clearing that up so I didn't have to. There's a lot of ignorance when it comes to gun laws on here.

For the people asking these questions, ask them on open carry forums like http://forum.opencarry.org/ and others.

You can open carry loaded on your person in a car or on a motorcycle. Saying you can't is just more redneck ignorant bullshit.
Knowlege- Ky state laws and personal experience from being pulled over on my motorcycle and in my jeep.-open carrier no ccdw.

No, must be 18 to open carry, and 21 to purchase.

I actually got pulled over recently with my carry in a hip holster, don't have my CCW just yet. I made sure to inform the officer of my weapon before even handing him my ID, and all they did was run the make and serial on the weapon and sent me on my way. Just make sure the authorities know about your weapon!
I believe that was a violation of your 4th Amendment right, he had no right to run the serial # on the firearm.

Thank you so much for this clarification, I've been open carrying in my for a year now and had heard many different opinions on this exact subject. Its nice to have someone with true experience posting to clarify this section of the law.

You must be fuckin stupid I open carried long before I got my CCDW and left my gun on the dash of my pick up . I was stopped many times and only in one incident did a officer ask to see my gun . He ask me if it was hot and I said nothing in the chamber only in the mag . He ask me to remove the mag and hand it safely to him . He ran the numbers on the gun and brought it back to me and ask me to wait till he pulled away before I put the mag back in that's it . Dumbass
