It is really who you know, not what you know.
You might still manage to get a job with the city, not sure where you apply but it is worth a try.

Nicholasville hires occasionally but the positions are bum-rushed by many and are filled almost instantly.

It certainly doesn't hurt to have correspondence with someone already working there, because available positions are up for grabs by current employees first, then they're made public if not filled. But many people without city-employed friends or family get on often.

If you'd really like a job at the City (great benefits and decent pay, btw), my advice is to just keep trying.

I heard planning and zoning is gonna hire an Office Manager. But I'm pretty sure they have somebody picked out from the inside that they're trying to move up in the ranks. And thevillebear is right. Your degree isn't whats gonna help you. They never publicize that stuff because they don't want the public to know. I tried to get hired with the city before myself with no luck.
