Army deserter returns to U.S., Kentucky home

Lexington's Darrell Anderson crossed the border back into the United States yesterday afternoon, almost two years after deserting from the Army and fleeing to Canada, and started for home in Kentucky, where he ... Full Story

<quoted text>I really don't care if you believe me or not when I state I served for 25 years. Just pay attention to the news and you'll hear Soldiers critize the war. Guess you never heard the term "a bitching soldier is a happy soldier".. I guess you can't recall the Tennessee Guardsman who critized the military, while he was in Kuwait, for the lack of uparmored Humvees. I'm sorry if while you were in the air force your NCO's did not allow you to tactfully express your opinion. Reading through your posts and judging by your screen name, I'd have to say you're the one doing the raving here
I believe you did. It's not illegal to voice your opinion in a respectful way without disobeying a direct order. What is illegal is to break your contract and go AWOL.

<quoted text>You're proud that DOD was a big employer for decades? That pretty much the same thing as welfare.
How can you compare being in the military to sitting on your ass doing nothing but popping out more babies to get more welfare. Please explain how you make that dumbass leap.

<quoted text>It takes a lot more guts to actually follow through on a commitment that you gave an oath to than to be a quiter and run when the going gets rough. If he was so commited to his "cause" why didn't he speak up sooner?
Really big applause.

<quoted text>See, more liberal spin. The economical effects we're feeling today are from Clintons administration, not Bush's. It takes a while for the effects of one policy era to catch up to the current day.
As for Reagan, he was the best thing to EVER happen to the USA.
Right now we need a president like Reagan to lead this country.

<quoted text>True, but there's not been any case where the murderers were ordered to do the killing. It's always turned out to be some scumbag(s) in uniform. The military, like any subset of Americans, is not immune from having them in the ranks.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if he got it for shooting himself in the foot!
What about the scumbags over there who are killing our soldiers?

Open source information from CBC news in Canada:

A 24-year-old soldier who fled to Canada after serving in Iraq has been released by U.S. military officials and won't face a court martial, his lawyer said Friday.

Jim Fennerty told the Lexington Herald-Leader in Kentucky that Darrell Anderson would be on extended leave for a month and then would receive a discharge other than honourable.

Personal Note:
In other words, after six months of being discharged, Anderson can have his lawyer file an order to have his discharge upgraded to honorable. When that happens Anderson can file claims with the VA. He can collect disability for his wounds both physically and mentally. Wonder how much taxpayer money he is receiving.

He should get a bad conduct discharge and do hard time at Ft. Leavenworth. He let his commanders, buddies and America down.
