cramming in the inmates

There are 56 comments on the Kentucky.com story from Jan 13, 2008, titled cramming in the inmates. In it, Kentucky.com reports that:

“Of course, every other jail is overcrowded, so it's not like there's a lot of places to send them.”

STANFORD Lincoln County's jail, like many in Kentucky, is packed beyond capacity. It has room for 72 prisoners. On a recent weekday, it held 101, about two dozen of them state inmates for whom there is no space in prisons.

Jailer David Gooch appreciates the revenue that state inmates bring $30.94 a day per body and counts them on his population chart under the heading 'In the $.' But life is a claustrophobic nightmare for inmates. Many sleep on concrete floors. They eat and shower in overcrowded cells, the air thick with body odor and cigarette smoke. There is no escape from the television's drone or from the nearest roommate. They may see two hours of daylight a week from a rooftop basketball court if the weather permits. Read more

Who the F**K cares!! Prison should be so bad that it is a deterent!! If the conditions are so bad then maybe they shouldn't commit crimes that would put them there in the first place. Not wanting to go top prison and live like that sure made me second guess some of my possible choices.
We're not talking about prison. We are talking about county jails, where most people are still awaiting a TRIAL...hello. Most of these people have not been found guilty yet. Some will in fact be found not guilty of the crime accused and they do not deserve this treatment. A police officer can and will arrest you for anything now days and you will be forced to stay there. It doesnt matter if you are innocent, this is where you will be until you bond out or found not guilty. So please do get a clue.

Obey the law?...ok, the law....is it that simple. No... in America you obey the policeman, TSA agent, security officer, dog catcher and do what they say or else? There's no respect for law in these tyrannts eyes. You do what they say or you pay the piper. It doesn not matter is you are obeying the law, because they make up laws as it fits their agenda. For example, there is no law stating you can't film a police officer, but I bet you won't go up to a poice and start video taping them. Although, there is no law violation, they will take your damn camera and offer to arrest you if you dont obey their commands. Oh..or try open carrying your firearm one day just minding your own business on a public street and see what happens if some dumb person calls the police on you bacuse you have a gun. The police are going to start questioning you ans asking you for id, and this and that. You are not legally required to give this info to them unless you are being a threat. But I bet if you try to tell the police that you did nothing wrong and refuse to give this info, they will make up some charges for you to be arrested on, because they are power hungry control freaks. So please do get a clue. There are innocent people in jail...please do realize not all people in jail are guilty.

Well I'm sure there are crooked cops just like crooked lawyers, doctors, preachers etc etc etc. I'm 45 years old, two speeding tickets on record. Never been arrested or so much as threatened to be. Maybe if you just do what you were suppose to, you would fly right under the radar.

true but the problem is incarceration rates are going up over crimes that normally wouldn't require jail time. its like cops are arresting people left and right, jail & prison sentences have increased drastically for petty things. US leads the world in prison sentencing and has it really deterred crime that much? not really. We still lead the stats in crimes too. It just doesnt seem to be solving the real problems, just costing us more tax dollars. I wish it helped then I would be all for it.

The problem lies with the law makers.

Time for draconian rule to die off, along with these dirty state legislators, and these filthy, criminal pigs. They have manipulated this country into a fascist oligarchy. The majority of our troops signed up for the military because they couldn't find a job, and for the benefits. Everybody knows these lying a holes have ran this country into the ground. The entire criminal justice system is corrupt at best. This is what our troops are fighting for? Yeah right. Our constitutional guarantee of checks and balances have failed. All 3 beaches of government have converged and have literally turned against the citizens of the U.S. They claim to be public servants? What a lie. People, you can thank Nixon and the Reagans for the beginning of all of this. Is Nancy dead yet? I hope so.
She has unwittingly killed an astronomically more people than Adolf Hitler through the advocation of her nasty husbands signature to concoct these inhumane drug wars.
Even the turnkeys' in the county jails knows the hateful propaganda that puts the food on their table.
2015....... Come on people. It finally has to stop.

So are you saying we need no police, jails, drug offenses? Are you advocating a "Each for their own" society where only the strongest survive? What will you do with all those old people in the nursing homes?

I never said anything like that.
We now have the technology to protect ourselves against the status quo.
We need adequate watch dog groups to oversee all 3 branches of government, and legislation to eliminate immunity to decrease power these monsters enjoy.
Their credibility has diminished, and it is impossible for them to fix themselves.
Old one, I believe we are in for one hell of a summer. Worse than the 60s.

Let's hope not, but sometimes change is made by the mass being moved from it's present center to place our future on s new course.

I like to be left alone. If I'm walking down the street at night, I do not enjoy being accosted by a lunatic cop trying to gain an arrest quota. These cops have enough to do without going out looking for trouble.
that is not their job. Random checkpoints looking for drunk drivers, hitting every license plate coming and going . No privacy. They don't need all of that to catch violent offenders and thieves'. If all of these drugs were legalized, the value of it all would be as cheap as toilet paper. Why in the hell do I care if somebody wants to do drugs. If parents can't keep their kids off of the dangerous streets and off dope, throw the parents in jail for child abuse. Damn people should have kept their clothes on. I can't help it if somebody overdoses. Take the $$$$$$$ out of dope and that will cure most of the trouble. Damn jail and cops makes more $$$$$ off of it than the pushers.
