There are 40 comments on the story from Mar 15, 2010, titled Mayor Smith's Son Caught at School with Gun, Pot and "Appropriated" Signs. In it, reports that:

Police have confirmed that they were called to Flower Mound High School on Wednesday on a report of a gun found on campus.

Officials found a BB gun, a small amount of marijuana and some signs in the vehicle of David Smith, 17. Smith is the son of Flower Mound Mayor Jody Smith. Jody Smith could not be reached for comment Friday.

The teen was not arrested, and the case has been turned over to the Denton County district attorney's office. "They'll make a determination if charges will be filed," Capt. Richard Brooks said.

Brooks said the signs belonged to the Flower Mound Cares Petition group, but representatives did not wish to file charges. The group is collecting signatures in support of a moratorium on some operations related to gas drilling.

Must be nice to be the mayors son and not be arrested oin a drug free zone and no gun zone with having had both. I believe that could be a felony charge . No other teen in this town could het away with that . By the way in Texas you are an adult at the age of 17. Any one remember how those poor wrestlers were guilty until proven innocent and crucified by the police school and media . Must be nice to have the cops in your back pocket jody way to go ! If you were decent you would make your son face up yo his mistakes instead of calling in favors . Hope the da does his job .

Mr. Moon (principal of FMHS) believes in zero tolerance...where is it now? Oh, sorry, it's the Mayor's son. Different standards for different citizens of Flower Mound. And to think my son gets pulled over for having a slightly dimmed license plate light and they want to search his car.
You can bet my vote will NOT be for Jody Smith!

Get over it. Life isn't fair. Either the DA will crucify him or he'll THINK he got away with it, keep doing it, and end up dead or in jail with a more serious drug charge. In any event, this trash talking is a little bit ridiculous.

The town of Flower Mound needs a good cleaning from top to bottom incl. all elected and appointed officials and some paid ones, too. Its a scandal waiting to happen.

I don't see young Smith's name on the list of arrests published yesterday... Crimes range from unpaid traffic tickets to failure to sterilize an animal (?).

What's the hold up? My son would have immediately been thrown under the jail, expelled, lost scholarships, etc., etc.

What's up, Chief Booker? What are you waiting for?

Here are few articles citing other schools' "zero tolerance" arrests for pot and BB guns (we won't even get into whether the signs were stolen since those who could have pressed charges, chose not to.)

Here are the arrests in Flower Mound for marijuana possession...

I'm not trying to ruin this kid's life. I do expect our local PD to enforce the laws, to serve and protect the people of Flower Mound.

Come on flower mound police do your job and arrest this kid or else you better be prepared to give the rest of all our kids a free pass next time they do anything wrong . In fact I think I will tell my son next time he is pulled over to say he is the mayors son and he expects them to look the other way .

Are you aware that the zero tolerance policy in Texas public schools was outlawed by the Texas State Legislator in the May 2009 session? LISD however is still operating under the old law. So kids have been expelled from LISD schools for possesion and this is illegal. It does not allow for due process. I guess in LISD it is who you know and the rules get made up as you go! Corruption in government and public education. Shameful!

Flower Mound HS and FM Police obviously have 2 sets of rules- one for ordinary citizens and one for the mayors son and also years ago for the police capt.s son (Lake). Paul Moon feels he can grant immunity to the Mayors son but he was part of the administration that went after the wrestlers a few years ago. He does not belong as principal of a school. As far as FM police- they need to make a clean sweep- from top to bottom. I cannot believe this boy was not arrested. And - in Texas you are an adult at 17. Shame shame on Paul Moon and the FM police.

Just Goggle them and look at the results: chasing a fed going to a call, allowing a cop impersonator to ride along, not pursuing charges against the driver of a van that ran over a skateboarder resulting in his death, making a woman lift her skirt looking for drugs, council women pinching a cop at a council meeting...

Hey maybe we need an investigative reporter to look into this mess. Obviously the police did not do their job-Paul Moon did not-hope the DA does...Maybe the citizens should stir things up. Anyone out there know who to call to look into this?

The harassment of teens in Flower Mound is becoming more and more ridiculous. My son was pulled over 3 times during Spring Break--once on a Friday night and again the next morning! Reason for being pulled over? His tail light on his car was not the right color. This "violation" allows the police to search his car? My daughter also has been pulled over several times for similar "violations". I think the FM police are just hoping to get lucky and find something. I have heard many other stories from other FM parents about the police harassment of teens in this community. Maybe it's time to take the issue to the media and let the public decide. I would like to know how many times David Smith was pulled over by the FM police. My guess would be "none".

Banana and gorilla arrested for running the field...mayor's son brings drugs, bb-gun and stolen items onto school property...I'd say the citizens of FM are second bananas to the Mayor's inner circle which seems to include FMHS Principal Moon.

My son will never get the break her son got--he is routinely pulled over for "something" and then a car search. If he says no then the police threaten with a drug dog search and arrest if they find anything at all. Sounds likes threats to get what they want. Then when they don't find anything he gets a ticket for whatever little thing they can come up with. He has only run into a couple of decent guys they give warnings for "not using a blinker" or whatever. Yet David Smith is not even arrested on school property with pot, a bb gun and stolen signs--drug free zone--no guns--what is so difficult to comprehend here!! That would have been a no brainer arrest-but yet the mayors son gets off!! I sure hope Paul Johnson our DA has the sense to see through this mess and press charges. Believe me the rest of our kids would have been sitting in a Flower Mound jail cell.

Are you kidding me?????????? The teen IS NOT "getting away with it!" Get your facts straight before you start spreading MORE LIES! Where do you get your information????? From blogs & Town rumor mills? Don't think that's a RELIABLE source of news! I'm so glad that you & everyone you know was a PERFECT teenager & has PERFECT Flower Mound teenagers! Please pray for families of struggling teenagers instead of bashing them! Read James 3:1-12

What citizens are trying to point out is that ANY other teen would have had their name, photo, whatever put in the paper or on the local news and removed from school...that is NOT the case with the Mayor's son. Having sent 3 teens through FMHS, I can tell you this case is an outrage.
