I've been to every single one, and had good food and met a lot of great people.

I'm sure I've forgotten about some. As with anywhere else, some are better than others. Some are questionable as their quality and cleanliness. Some are average. Some are consistently good. Some are truly outstanding. At most of these, you'll get good food at a reasonable value and will not be subjected to drugs. Try them out and you make up your mind.

If you aren't in the mood for any of these, you can go to State College and have even more choices.

1) Bings Diner
2) Mel and Dottie;s
3) OIP Downtown
4) OIP McVeytown
5) Help Me Rhonda's McVeytown
6) OIP Belleville - Ritchies
7) OIP Reedsville - now Michelle's Place Duck on In
8) OIP Milroy
9) Laskaris
10) Bear's Den
11 Joe's OIP near WalMart
12 Villa Roma's

14 Chinese Place in Burnham shopping center
15 Avenue Six Pack
16 West End Six Pack (I don't know what it is called today)

19 HammerMill
20 SteelWorker
21 Seasons
22 Angelos
23 Red's Diner
24 Hoss's
25 Waterfront Inn
26 Southside Hoagie Shop
27 Sheetz
28 the old Luba's (Lewvos) Gentlemen's club - not sure if they are still serving food, but I list it

I'm sure I have forgotten many others, but I forgot some great Big Valley places to eat. The place in Allensville that serves great food at Mifflin County prices, and Peachey's in Barrville.

The Burnham OIP is a fantastic place to eat. Frank started a great place, and the new owners (no drugs are drunks in this place) are keeping the tradition but building their own. Can't believe I forgot about them.

Another is the Quality Inn, Holiday Inn, or whatever it is called these days that uses the old Tony's recipes. I was there in May, and it is as good as it's ever been.

many others I've forgotten about, and I'm sure others will list.

Point is, the next time someone says "There's no where to eat in Mifflin County", consult this list.

Can anyone tell me how you get to your APPLEBEE'S, or if you don't have any of them, the Country Buffet ,Bonanza,Golden Corral,Shoneys or another family steak house would be OK,anything but Hoss's?

We don't have any of the one's you're looking for here in Mifflin County. State College (about 30 miles west of us) has a few steak house's that I can think of offhand - an Applebee's, Texas Roadhouse and a Pondersoa

I agree, there are a lot of good restaurants in Lewistown.Probably two of my favorites are Burnham OIP and Andreas. The Country restaurant in Allensville is good too.If you have never tried Cowboy Jacks they have excellent food.

Forgot about Cowboy Jacks. They are good.

Personally, I'm glad Mifflin County isn't overrun with cookie cutter, vanilla corporate, chain joints like Applebees, Outback, Ruby Tuesday, Texas Roadhouse, Ryan's....etc.

You can get a lot better steak at Cowboy Jacks, Waterfront or the place that used to be the Holiday Inn (Tony's), than any of those unimagitive chain joints.

No, you said that about "good restaurants" I said that in reply to a person looking for chain-steakhouses. Big difference.

And besides, I wasn't talking to you. There you go again answering comments not directed at you.(sound familiar?)

What do you think the person was talking about, did you think they wanted a place to feed their dog. Did you ever hear the saying what is good for the goose is good for the gander. I commented to you because it was your comment that said you did not have to go to State College or Harrisburg, then you turn around a tell the person you have to go to State College, we don't have any of those you mentioned.I commented to you because you are a hypocrite. I hope they don't look for the Cracker Barrel for breakfast.

It's not that hard to understand.

Fact 1) There are a lot of good places to eat in Lewistown that are not chain family steakhouses.

Fact 2) There are no chain family steakhouses in Mifflin County except Hoss's.

Fact 3) If you want to eat at a chain family steakhouse other than Hoss's you will need to go to State College.

Fact 4) In conclusion: If you want to eat at a good restaurant in Mifflin County that is not a chain family steakhouse, you will have plenty of choices.

Linked logical statements. Try it some time.

I guess I'm ot going to bother pointing out what a nmoron you are. I know it and so does anybody who visits these forums. They gave a SPECIFIC LIST of steak houses they were looking for and even specifically said they did not want Hoss's so I told them where they need to go to find the EXACT steak houses they wanted.

Let's break it down into 2 easy pre-schooler level steps for you:

Good restaurants - plenty of them here in Mifflin County.

Steak houses that are NOT Hoss's - none of them in Mifflin County.

There you have it, If you prefer a hotdog over steak stay here and eat your heart out, but if you want steak, keep your motor running and go over the mountain to State College or go east to Harrisburg. These people here eventually comes to their senses, it's just that it takes so much to get them there. Isn't that what I said to start with if you want Pizza and junk food we have it,but if you don't want that you have to go to State College or Harrisburg.

You can get a great steak at Waterfront, Tony's, Gables,OIP Burnham (you do know that it's not just a pizza joint), Captain Jack's, J.P.'s, Hammer Mill and probably a half dozen other places. Most of them are comparable if not a lot better than a corporate chain joint.
