This town has a lot to offer kids. Churches, good schools, libraries, fast food jobs, beautiful streams, countryside and ridges for hiking, biking, hunting, etc. Wonderful state parks are close. Excellent sports facilites and ballfields abound.

Like everywhere else, there is TV and video games for the lazy bum teenagers.

I scoff at drop out kids who say "there is nothing to do in Lewistown......"

All that and skate parks only a half hour or 45 mins. drive away from Lewistown.

"There is nothing to do in Lewistown" is an excuse. I know times are different from when I was a teenager, but we never used that excuse. We played the sport that was in season at our local playground, we spent hours on the banks of the river fishing, we wore tires off our bikes from riding so much, we explored the wooded ridges, etc. If we chose to disobey our parents and the authorities it was because we chose to do so, not because "there is nothing to do in Lewistown". We respected and feared our parents and our teachers and the police and our elders. Too many young people today have no guidance and no positvie influence in their lives, that is the problem, not the fact that we don't have a skate park. I think it would be great to have a skate park, but not having a skate park is not why our kids are getting into trouble.

My grandson used to ride a bike all the time,we bought him at least four or five, they were all stolen. That tends to get a little expensive. He does go fishing and tubing on the river. He has a friend that will take some of them to Raystown once in awhile and at least one trip a summer to Hershey Park. But sometimes you like them to be able to things that don't cost money.Hes a town kid and doesn't always a way to get to different places and parents that work aren't always available.I just think our town should be a little more kid friendly and don't judge all kids according to a few.

I am not judging your grandson. I know times are different and kids face different challenges today than I did. I have said it many times, I am glad that I am not a kid today and I am glad that my children are young adults.

“Why all the negativity?”

I agree. I don't buy the "nothing to do" either. You can fish, play ball, tube down the river, play tennis, ride bike, go for a walk, etc. and all of those things are free.

However, if skateboarding is your choice of pastime, there is nowhere in this county that you can ride your skateboard for free (or pay for that matter) that you are not going to get harassed and treated like a criminal even if you're not destructing property. These kids have nowhere else to ride them, that's my problem with it.

Look out for this guy , Why is the world going to come to an end because of a misspelled word ? You probably have more to fear than a misspelled word on a Topix Forum .

You'll do better at watching for the fires Smokey and leave the GRAMMAR police do his job here . You will have better results.
