What a damn shame. These kids have done everything within their power to get a skate park and this community won't allow it. What a disgrace.

If you taxes went up to pay for lawsuits from injuries from a skateboard at the skatepark , you would probably have a different opinion . Go to Huntington and skate or Woodward .

Of course, why provide something for our youth to do here? Let them go elsewhere and see how a real county treats their youth but then expect them to stay here and pay taxes.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a 1/2 mile oval race track here in Lewistown since we have so many have race car drivers and fans here , that way they would not have to go to Port Royal and Hesston . You just can't have everything at your doorstep.

This is for kids. They don't always have the luxury of transportation to haul them 20-30 miles to a community that provides for their youth.

Oh , You mean a drop-off place so the parents can get them out of their hair for the day . They need a break from their kids , I heard that lots of times.

Was Shooters for kids or was that for the bigger salesman kids learning how to be a salesman and since the biggest demand was drugs , that ended up being the number one product for that place.

WTF are you talking about? Where did I say anything about parents dropping their kids and leaving? Sometimes I think you just like to bitch to hear yourself bitch. Not that it has anything to do with this discussion at all, but most skaters are teenagers that don't need parental supervision so bringing that into the discussion is just stupid.

You made a poor, irrelevant comparison by bringing up a private business (Port Royal Speedway) so I was simply saying we're talking about a public park here in our own town instead of needing to use one in another town that's too far away for the kids to get to by themselves.

Again, shooters was a private business and therefore irrelevant to this discussion.

If there was such a HUGH demand for a skatepark, don't you think that some smart business person would have taken notice and filled that need? Surely there was a fortune sitting there just waiting to be taken to the bank by some lucky investor. Oh, that's right, that would have included a cost to the skaters so they could make a profit rather than suckling at the public trough. Lewistown's Mayor Bargo compared the skaters to footbal and baseball players in that they need a place to "practice." I have yet to see any baseball or football "pick-up games" in downtown or destroying other peoples property just so they can "practice."

Maybe because they have publicly provided areas to play ball...

Fact is, a lot of those skateboarders are little pukes. Some of them are good kids, but many of them are pimple faced pukes who do no engender public sympathy or support.

Whether they're pukes or Punkes , I don't care , but I agree , most kids today don't have the manners and respect for other people as they should. All they want to do is talk back when people try to correct them . So they want a skatepark.

Here we go again with the personal attacks is that all you know anything about . I simply said you can't have everything anybody wants just because they want it and a speedway track would be no different . Then you want to determine what a kid is , Is it anyone under the age of 18 as the law uses or is it anyone under the age of 21 since that is when you can legally drink or do you have your personal opinion to classify a person as a kid. As most skateboarders are teenagers ??????? An if you could figure things out for yourself , you would have known that if other people need to travel for the things they want to do skateboarders can also . Where did the bitching come in ? People will argue that point any day of the week that teenagers don't need supervision.

You seem like a nice lady, but I need to correct you. You are being overly defensive about your grandson.

I didn't call your grandson a "pimple faced puke". Reread my post. I said that there are a lot of good kids (and your grandson is probably one of them). Unfortunately, there are sufficient number of bad apples in the bunch, and insufficient internal policing on the part of the skateboard community to give "skateboarders" the bad reputation they have. I take it you don't live on Montgomery Avenue?

If your grandson is a good kid (and I'm sure he is) I hope he stays around and makes it better. I hope the pukes leave.

You people are morons you bitch and moan about them being on your side walks and curbs, you have complained so much that these kids are getting fine after fine for riding a skate board down the street. Would you rather them out of sight and mind maybe they can go out in the woods in their cars and get drunk all night and than drive home. Thats okay because you cant see it. That would be great for you mifflin countians. When there 21 they can help this county thrive and keep one of the bars on every street open. You fail to realize it will help the community and you wont have to look at the little "pukes".

Save your breath. Most of the people here would rather complain about the negatives instead of helping to maybe steer them in a positive direction.

If the kids had a skatepark to practice on,they wouldn't be on the sidewalks or wherever diturbing the residents of this fine town. When kids have nothing to do thats when they get into trouble. What is there to do in this town? We have one movie theater, one bowling alley that you can't use because the leagues are always there,a YMCA tthats so expensive most familys can't afford a membership, two swimming pools, one that the hispanics and blacks have taken over. You tell me,what does this town really offer our kids?
